Anthemic shoutalongs from North Wales – here’s Ryan from Alien Feelings…

How did you get the title of your latest release, ‘Bondage and Lipstick’, and what does it mean to you?
It’s a line from Scream, one of the songs that’s on the EP. It goes “Bondage and lipstick, angelic sadistic, she tells me that she’ll never let me go.”

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
The hardest part was sitting on it for so long that my ass got sore. I think it was originally scheduled for release in the summer, but due to Covid we weren’t able to get together for press shots etc. September 4th soon came around though and somehow it feels better to have a release this side of the year.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it?
Our EP ‘Bondage and Lipstick’ was recorded down in London with Animal Farm Music. It was an amazing experience for us all. We each heard ourselves in a way we never thought possible.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
A connection, to hear what we play and feel like it is them. The topics that Alien Feelings scream about can hit a lot of people.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
Normally Josh will send us a demo of whatever he’s wrote, and then the rest of us figure out whatever we think can go with it.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Since we’ve been Alien Feelings, I have been listening to a lot Ska-Punk, mainly Reel Big Fish, Rancid and Operation Ivy. Hopefully one day we’ll get to play some (nudge, nudge, wink wink)

When the world is back to normal where would like to tour, and why?
At the moment, we’d settle for a home town tour, but when Covid does the right thing, and fu*ks off, I think we’d like to see more of the UK. I have never been to Scotland or Ireland, and it would be great to see more of Cymru too. England’s alright.

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
It’s got to be ‘Scream’, not only because there’s a video, but because it’s the sheer attitude behind playing the track.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
As a band, we want to go as far as we can. We love gigging, the road trips are hilarious. The week we spent recording our EP, ‘Bondage and Lipstick’, was an experience we’ll never forget. We’ve only just started. Ultimately, we just want to play music, and hopefully, do it for a living.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, it’s been a pleasure. We’ve been Alien Feelings, please show us your bumholes.
