Blitz Union interview main

Prague musical project combining EDM with metal – here’s Mark, singer for Blitz Union…

How did you get the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
Speaking about our newest single, ‘Human Robot’, it basically describes my overall feeling and personal experience of the so called ‘corporate life’. If a person does not do the work that really entertains and fills him, he can easily get into a situation where, after a while, his current job starts to exhaust him absolutely. However, the fact that over a period of time he has created obligations that he is able to pay only for the work he got into, he is basically trapped, and he has no choice but to remain in the current situation/job. If you are not careful, you might find yourself working day and night and your life will be slowly fading out… I tried to reflect this in the song and, perhaps, motivate those who are in this situation to overcome the fear of change. Just as it helped me when I was composing it.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
We had almost a year gap between our last EP, ‘Revolution’, and these new releases, so we had a lot of time to prepare everything right. We were not under pressure, which is always a good thing. So, I am not aware of any struggles.

What do enjoy most about producing your own material?
We produced it fully by ourselves this time and I must say it was a liberating feeling for the whole band. Our bassist, Schtorm, became a very handy programmer over the time so he is able to transfer all our crazy ideas to music exactly in the form we want. We really enjoy the ‘freedom’.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
That’s what we enjoy about music. You can never plan in advance how your music will affect people and what message they will take from it. Everyone takes from it what they need in the moment.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
I usually bring some topical lyric ideas with a very simple instrumental. If everybody feels it the same, the music is then composed together, by our common ‘alchemy’. The source of my inspiration is part of the overall Blitz Union story, which we are not ready to reveal yet. if you follow our social sites regularly, you will get some answers soon.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
We were all raised on the rock/metal bands which were popular around the year 2000, so for example Korn, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit, Rammstein, Static-x etc. The influence of these bands is undeniably audible in our music. But we also dig the new electronic, dance and trap wave from where we try to absorb and later implement its typical sounds to our music as well. Anyway, currently, we try to focus on what is coming directly from us.

When the world is back to normal where would like to tour, and why?
I guess anywhere, where it would be possible [laughs]. We do not have any preferred country or city. We will be happy to play wherever our Union is welcome.

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
I would pick ‘Money-Crazy World’. This song contains everything you can expect from Blitz Union, both musically and lyrically.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
We want to play as much as possible and produce as much music as possible. There are still many impulses I get, so everything has to go out. We will leave the rest to “fate” and on our great label Dreamstart Music, which presents our music to the world.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Thanks for having us here! As my parting words, I would like to say that those who are not afraid to ask themselves unpleasant questions, and who have the courage to face their personal, but also external, problems, are more than welcome in our Union and can contact us directly at any time and contribute their knowledge and experience. Thank you, and have a great one!
