Not naturally stylish? Struggle to find the right clothes for you? Don’t worry, not all of us are born fashionistas. Sometimes it takes a little research and experimentation to figure out how to dress our best.

Fortunately, there are some simple tricks to elevate your outfits and your overall style. Who knows? With our tips, you could even end up at Paris Fashion Week.

Figure out what colours suit you best

The first thing you must do is understand what colours accentuate your features and make you look your best. It doesn’t matter about the clothing should the colours fail to enhance your appearance.

The easiest way to go about this is to decide whether your natural colouring is either warm or cool. Warm colours have an orange or golden tone and signify energy and vividity. In contrast, cool colours have a silver or blue tone and tend to be calming and soothing.

Those who have a warm skin tone should look to colours like turquoise, yellow, warm red, and peach in their clothing, including jewellery that is gold copper or bronze. Cool skin tones should stick to colours like lavender, plum, emerald, burgundy, and bright blue. Any jewellery should ideally be made of silver or platinum and can include cool stones.

Invest in timeless clothing

We’re all guilty of looking through our wardrobes and thinking “I have nothing to wear.” Then what happens? We make the same mistake again and buy items that will probably never see the light of day.

Essentially, you’ve given yourself too many options that are difficult to mix effectively. While a particular trend may seem great at the time, trends die out – and fast. What doesn’t die out are clothes that have transcended time.

You can never go wrong with plain tees, black jeans, leather jackets, boots, and solid, neutral colours. Denim has always been a timeless option, whether it’s in the form of jeans, a skirt, or a dress –just be sure to go for something that is well-made and from a sustainable brand.

Accessorising is keyGood style is about people remembering your outfit. This doesn’t always need to be through bold or bright clothing but can instead be reflected in the accessories you wear. Consider swapping out an old belt for a brand-new leather one with a metal buckle or embellishing your wrist with a luxury Breitling watch.

Remember, however, if you’re planning to wear numerous items of jewellery or various accessories, these all shouldn’t be statement pieces. This calls for a little moderation so, in this case, try to include neutral colours or matching pieces.

Choose something that fits well

You may choose the perfect outfit only for it to be ruined by it fitting you poorly. Fit is one of the most important aspects when improving your fashion sense, so ensure the clothes appear proportionate before cutting off the price tag.

Typically, most of us will opt for a bigger size for comfortability but this excess fabric not only can make you look unkempt but also less defined. While your clothes don’t necessarily need to be skin-tight, they should at least fit you well. This simple trick can make even the simplest of outfits appear stylish.
