Torquay is a beautiful and charming seaside resort town located in the English county of Devon, UK. Comfortably situated on the south coast of the island, Torquay is famous for its sandy beaches, mild climate, and historic Victorian architecture.

Even though being a small town (as of mid-2020, the population is approximately 65,800), Torquay offers a wide range of popular tourist attractions, including the Torquay Museum, Babbacombe Model Village, and the Agatha Christie Mile.

The Most Beautiful Town in the South of England

Torquay is part of the English Riviera, a stretch of coastline that includes the neighbouring towns of Paignton and Brixham. The town is a popular holiday destination, offering a range of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to campsites.

Visitors can enjoy water sports, boat trips, and coastal walks, or explore the nearby Dartmoor National Park. Torquay also has a vibrant nightlife scene, with numerous bars, restaurants, and nightclubs.

The town’s beautiful beaches are extremely attractive, especially to that part of the British population who do not wish to travel too far from home for their summer vacation.

The Easiest Way to Get to Torquay

The easiest way to get to the city depends on your starting location. In the following lines, we are going to explain what is the easiest way to get here if you are leaving from the country itself, and also if you are arriving from abroad.

If You Are a Traveller Who Comes From Within the UK

If you are travelling from within the UK, you can take a train to Torquay Station, which is easily accessible because of its location in the town centre. It is served by Great Western Railway and CrossCountry.

Alternatively, you can drive to Torquay using the A380 or A3022 roads, which connect the town to some of the major cities in the region.

If You Are Travelling From Abroad

If you are travelling from another country, the closest airport to Torquay is Exeter International Airport, which is relatively small but quite busy, especially during the summer months of the year. It is approximately 22 miles (35 kilometres) away.

The airport offers regular flights from various UK and European cities. From the airport, you can take a taxi, bus, or rental car to Torquay, which is approximately a 40-minute drive away.

Exeter Airport offers flights to destinations within the UK, Europe, and beyond, with airlines such as Flybe, Ryanair, and TUI Airways. From the airport, visitors can take a taxi, bus, or rental car to Torquay, which is easily accessible via the A380 and A3022 roads.

Other airports within reasonable driving distance include Bristol Airport (80 miles/130 kilometres away) and Cardiff Airport (130 miles/210 kilometres away). They are both considered to be a good alternative to the Exeter Airport and are also very well connected.

Torquay Airport Taxi – Is This the Best Option

Taking a taxi is definitely the easiest way to get from the airport to the resort town and the easiest way to get from Torquay to the nearest airport as well (you can learn more on AirportTaxiExpress.co.uk).

In Torquay there are many places where you can take a taxi and most of them are in the town centre. In most cases, this is a relatively easy task to do, especially in busy areas like the train station or the bus station.

You can hail a taxi on the street or book one in advance through a local taxi company. Alternatively, you can also use ride-hailing apps such as Uber or Lyft to get to the airport (this is a good idea if you want to save time).

If you are expected to arrive by plane from abroad, it will be much easier for you to book your transport in advance. That way you won’t have to worry when you arrive at the airport, but instead, you’ll know that your taxi is waiting for you.

What Is the Cheapest Option

The cheapest option to get from the airport to Torquay would depend on many factors. However, in general, taking a shared taxi or a pre-booked private taxi would be one of the cheaper and definitely the most comfortable options.

For sure it is much better than just taking a regular metered taxi. You can check for shared taxi services or pre-booked private taxis online or at the airport’s taxi stand. Alternatively, as we already mentioned, you can use ride-hailing apps to find affordable taxi options.

It’s worth noting that taking public transportation like buses or trains may be even cheaper than taking a taxi, but it may also take much longer and require more transfers, which is a big disadvantage if you already feel tired from your flight.
