Opera North Digital Initiatives Launched Online
Opera North continues its commitment to bring music and performance into the lives of people across the country. And recently it’s launched a suite of Opera North digital initiatives. Each of them designed to promote wellbeing, and also aid learning during the current lockdown and beyond.
With performance to an audience in person not possible under the current restrictions, the Company’s online offering includes programmes to keep children entertained and engaged with music in the home. They’ll run alongside feelgood initiatives for adults to raise spirits and encourage connection. The hugely successful singing workshops From Couch to Chorus returns for a third time, with over 90 per cent of those who took part in the Festive Edition saying it had a significant impact on their wellbeing.
“Explore the world of music”
And, with most children currently being schooled at home, Opera North’s Little School of Music offers a series of free interactive ‘pick and mix’ videos designed to encourage families to explore the world of music together.
Aimed at primary aged children, the programme takes youngsters on a journey of discovery. There’s a range of activities including games, quizzes and music-making. The resources have been created using the expertise of the tutors involved in the Company’s award-wining In Harmony project which has been running for over seven years in primary schools across Leeds.
The videos include a learning element, but the emphasis is on enjoying a break from traditional lessons. Families are encouraged to share their creations on social media afterwards. The resources will also be offered to schools free of charge.
Opera North digital initiatives starts Monday, 15th February. To sign up, visit www.operanorth.co.uk
