Soulful vocals, dreamy harmonies, dose of attitude, from Hull here’s Charlotte Jane…

How did you get the title of your latest release ‘Get it Right’, and what does it mean to you?
I was telling Jeff Shum and Dayyon Alexander about this guy that had been messing me around and how I knew all along that he was the kind of guy to do that and said the phrase ‘did I get it right? yup’ and it was clear straight away that was going to be the chorus tag. The rest just wrote itself! The song is definitely a reminder, to myself and those that listen to it, that you should trust and act on your instincts.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
A small, rather inconvenient factor that goes by the name of Covid… I’d say pretty much everything has taken at least twice as long because of the pandemic.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it?
Jeff Shum and Dayyon Alexander wrote and produced the song with me. They’re so insanely talented. I think what they do best is they always do just the right amount of production. Nothing is there, sonically, that doesn’t need to be there.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I’d love for people to find a piece of themselves in each of my songs. It’s reassuring when listeners relate to what I write about as it makes me feel less alone.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
I actually have no idea. Apart from me walking into a room and spilling what’s on my mind, every song seems to have a different journey. I probably, mostly write melodies before lyrics but I’ll know what the general concept is from the start. I usually leave every session thinking I’ve written the best song ever but when I go back and listen on fresh ears a couple of days later that’s usually when I get a more realistic view of it.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
I listen to sooo many different artists so it’s hard for me to know which ones I’m sub-consciously influenced by. I know I’ve been non-stop listening to Jordan Mackampa, Bon Iver and Daniel Caesar.

When the world is back to normal where would like to tour, and why?
I’m really drawn to playing shows in Australia. Probably, mainly because I’ve never been there and have always wanted to go.

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
It would have to be ‘Get it Right’… It’s the best representation of who I am as an artist right now.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Of course, I would love to be hugely successful. I want to have a career that sustains so I can keep making music and touring for as long as it makes me happy!

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Good night, God bless, drink more, care less. P.S stream ‘Get it Right’.
