A Q&A with Jessy Rose
Lucid dreams inspire young Dubliner’s eclectic release…
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
The title of my latest release is ‘Set Free’ and the song means a lot to me because it’s the first song on my debut EP and the story behind it is very close to my heart.
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
The hardest part about putting this release together was actually agreeing to put it out because when I wrote it I was in a really dark state of mind and listening back to it kept bringing me back there… I was actually shocked when people would listen to it and tell me it was a really positive song lol.
Who produced the release – what did they bring to it?
This song was produced by my collaborator for the whole EP, Ben Esser.
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I want the listeners to feel like they’re watching a movie when listening to my music, to be taken away from reality for the three minutes my song is on. That’s what my favourite music does to me.
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
My process differs track to track but for this song and most of the EP was written as poetry first, then I picked up my guitar and made songs out of them and my producer Ben built instrumentals around my guitar demos.
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
I watched A Star Is Born and right after I finished that I was fuel’d up and had a lot of inspiration to write this project.
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I’d love to tour the whole world. A standout venue I’d like to play in is Madison Square Garden.
If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
I’m not sure what to pick lol, everything I make is pretty different.
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
I wanna be able to tour my music globally.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
You guys were beautiful, thank you and good night.
