Looking for the best places to take your road bike in the UK? Whether you are new to the world of road biking or consider yourself a seasoned pro, there are all kinds of incredible places around the UK to explore on two wheels. This can make it challenging to plan your next trip, so here are a few places that should be at the top of your list.

Lake District

Of course, the Lake District is one of the most beautiful places in the UK, with jaw-dropping natural scenery. This makes it a great place for cycling, with many incredible places to explore, including Ambleside, Windermere, and Kendal, with breathtaking lakes to check out. The climbs up Honnister are famous in the cycling community and incredibly rewarding but be warned; you will need to be in good shape to get to the top! You will also want to make sure that you have a high-quality road bike that will provide a comfortable cycling experience.

Cornwall

Cornwall is a Mecca for outdoor sports enthusiasts, especially during the warmer months of the year. In terms of road biking, you have many places to discover here, but it is perhaps the Camel Trail that is best known. This is a traffic-free route taking you along the River Camel between Padstow and Bodwin. This is an 18km route, but there is also an extra 9km to follow if you want to push yourself.

Glasgow

Scotland is a great place for road biking, with so much wild, dramatic, and breath-taking natural scenery. Glasgow is a good base as you are close to the Trossachs mountain range just east of Loch Lomond and around 30 miles from the city. You do not generally find places like this so close to a major city, so it is a great chance to combine a city break with a road biking adventure. Additionally, the Tour of Trossachs is Scotland’s oldest bit race, with an incredibly scenic route to follow.

Wales

There are many fantastic places to explore all around Wales, but one hidden gem you won’t want to miss is Elan Valley – called the “Welsh Lake District” by many – in the heart of the Cambrian Mountains. This 27km route follows the old Birming-ham Corporate Railway Line and will take you through a stunning valley, Wildlife Trust Reserve, scenic woods, and picturesque countryside.

It can be hard to decide where to head off on a road bike adventure when there are so many beautiful places all over the UK. The above are a few places that should be on the top of your list, as they showcase the great beauty found throughout the UK and offer fun, thrilling, and rewarding biking routes along the way.
