The sound of the (London) suburbs: abundance of tunes and nervous energy, here’s JC from The Lunar Keys…

How did you get the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘IF IT Was’ the latest track is a lament on 2020 and it’s inspired by the events of 2020. We just felt super passionate about getting this track written and heard. “IF IT was just a choice you could make would you change the world today?”

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
The song was written and rehearsed once before we went to the studio, unlike before – but then that keeps it direct as well. We collaborated online more instead of rehearsing but we did pull together in a eureka moment in the studio to get the track down,

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it?
Simon Whiley, who has worked with Roxy Music and Coldplay. He brought clarity to our noise. The band send parts to each other to perfect them and agree on sounds and parts. We rehearse and go into the studio. Simon then makes sense of it all with editing and mixing with The Lunar Keys.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
To understand that we can overcome challenges if we help each other and the place we live in. The world has many wrongs and music will always have a voice to address this.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
Normally an idea that’s rehearsed a lot and we listen back then start laying a demo down and see if it works. We send ideas to each other and either get excited or not… Rehearsals are the measure as we want to reproduce our material with a wow factor live.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Arcade Fire. Foo Fighters. Lorde. Fleetwood Mac. U2. Muse. (Our mother’s Prince collection). Their music transports you to another place.

When the world is back to normal where would you like to tour, and why?
We would love to tour Everywhere. Gigging flat out -:-)

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘IF IT Was’ is a call to action… It is a banner for a new wave of alt-rock. It takes more than one listen to get this. The music has meaning and melody to transport anyone to that energised state of wanting a better life and connection. It also rocks!!

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Global recognition and a transcending experience for all. Music is universal and we want to challenge people, entertain them and make them feel they are part of something special.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Peace, love and guitars. See you on the moon.
