Heartfelt singer-songwriter from Australia…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
It’s called ‘Player’. This is my first release as a solo artist, so I think in a way the title ‘Player’ is all about finding my confidence, finding my own sh*t, you know. It’s about finding what music means to me, and finding myself within that.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
Doing it by myself was difficult. Like a real learning curve. It was weird getting used to so much autonomy. Cause I’m used to having bandmates and a label and all that. But it felt good to come back to myself and be like, ok, what do I want though? It taught me how to be my own boss and it also taught me how to ask for help where I need it. And that feels like something I’ll take with me 4EVA.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do enjoy most about producing your own material?
My friend Simon Lam produced and mixed the whole EP. I can’t imagine having done it without him. Like, he understood where I was at. And he understands me as a person. Yeah. We had heaps of fun.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I feel like it’s up to them. You know. But if anything I just hope it can feel honest or familiar or something.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
I pretty much always start with lyrics. Sometimes even just a few words that I like. Or a phrase that makes me feel something. Usually it’s something that’s pissing me off haha. Or something going on in my life that I find beautiful. And then I build it up with chords and melodies and all that. I like to be able to sing the song and know the story before getting into production stuff.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Oh wow… So many! I don’t really know where to begin. My favourite thing at the moment is Sorry’s new album.

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
God, there’s so many places I haven’t been. I’ve hardly played outside of Australia. I’m really excited to play everywhere!

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘Be the Player, Not the Poet’, but only cause it’s the latest one. All the songs feel special to me.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
I just wanna keep doing what I love. And keep being myself. I have external goals like traveling and touring and all that, but it has to feel good and true on the inside for any of that to matter.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Just a big smile. 😀
