Cassa Jackson interview

Pop! The sassy type…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Fame Looks Good On You’. This song represents me realising I was better off without my ex. It was empowering to write and allowed me to move on.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
I wrote it with my producer who lives in the South of France, but as I was going on tour, we had to finish it remotely over FaceTime. Luckily we know each other so well so we overcame the challenge and it’s exactly how I wanted it to sound.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it?
Kevin Malpass produced it with me. He has a background in rock music and so the heavy guitars are definitely influenced by him. He also wrote the song with me and we spent hours talking about the subject matter, so I got a free therapy session at the same time aha!

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I want listening to my songs to be a cathartic exercise for people so they can get through whatever they are going through on the relationship front. I want to empower people and leave them feeling sassy and good about themselves.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
I tend to write the lyrics first, as each song is so autobiographical and personal to me. On this occasion however the lyrics and melody actually came to me as one. Maybe it was because I was very passionate about this topic!

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
I love Tate Mcrae and Maisie Peters. Their music definitely had a big influence in the making of this record.

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I’d love to tour America! I always used to go on holiday there with my family when I was younger. Or Australia, I think playing the Sydney Opera House would be pretty memorable!

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘Right Girl, Wrong Guy’. It is the epitome of a sassy breakup song which is my forte.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
I was asked this a few weeks ago and I said I wanted to have a song of mine played on Radio 1. Two weeks later, it happened, not only once but twice! So now I’d like to sell out my own headline tour. Hopefully this might happen in 2023!

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Thank you so much I’ve been Cassa Jackson. If you can relate to any of my songs, my advice to you is, dump him!
