Weetwood Hall, Leeds Hotel Review (3)

By Graham Clark, April 2025

Set in its own grounds on the outskirts of Leeds, the four-star Weetwood Hall is a 10-minute drive from Leeds Bradford Airport.

The property dates to 1540 and includes a 17th-century Jacobean manor house on a nine-acre estate. The hotel has 114 bedrooms, including family-friendly rooms, four-poster feature bedrooms and superior double bedrooms set across the manor house and the newer extension.

The ‘Convive’ restaurant serves Yorkshire cooking, and the on-site Stables pub offers local drinks. The award-winning meeting and conference rooms—along with the manor house, which is licensed for civil ceremonies and partnerships—make Weetwood Hall a good destination for a weekend getaway or a short stopover. Leeds city centre lies four miles south, with the Yorkshire Dales and the spa town of Harrogate within easy reach.

“Mix of styles”

The hotel appeared at the end of a short drive, looking majestic and proud. There is an ample-sized car park with EV charging points. On a cold spring day, the warm ambience of the hotel reception was matched by the warm welcome I received.

Rooms range from Cosy Rooms up to the Heritage Four Poster Bedrooms, which is where I stayed. The furnishings were a mix of styles—from the contemporary grey carpet to the bold modern wallpaper, which complemented the matching velvet curtains. The main feature, of course, was the four-poster bed, which ensured a good night’s sleep thanks to quality bedding and a comfortable mattress.

The television was ergonomically positioned so it could be viewed from either the bed or the comfortable settee. Two large radiators heated the room adequately. Although there is no air conditioning, the windows did open, which may help during warmer months.

Impressively, the room included multiple USB ports. A fridge stocked with two bottles of Harrogate Spring Water was provided, and for hot drinks, a Nespresso coffee machine and a kettle with Yorkshire Tea were on hand.

“Range of Yorkshire products”

The spacious room felt homely and would suit more than just a one-night stay.

The mid-sized bathroom came with toiletries, including hand and body lotion and liquid soap from The Perfumer’s Garden. The powerful rain shower was situated over the bath, with a plentiful supply of hot water.

The menu in the hotel’s main restaurant featured a range of Yorkshire products. Starters included Yorkshire Rare Breed Ham Hock Terrine, Smoked Whitby Fishcake and a Yorkshire Charcuterie Platter. The latter offered a good selection, although I would have liked to see a local cheese such as Wensleydale included.

My Yorkshire beer-battered fish and chips came in a generous portion. The locally sourced haddock had a flaky texture and a mild, slightly sweet flavour. Dessert was a classic sticky toffee pudding—an indulgent portion that rounded off a good meal. The comprehensive wine list was also impressive.

“Ideal spot”

A good buffet breakfast was served in the adjacent Woodlands Restaurant, where the service was as attentive—yet not intrusive—as in the Convive restaurant.

The hotel does not have its own gym, but it has an arrangement with the nearby David Lloyd gym, just a five-minute drive away. The gym was one of the best I’ve used, offering excellent equipment, tennis courts, and both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. All facilities are free to hotel guests.

Good standards of service, clean and modern rooms with character await guests at Weetwood Hall. Although situated just off the ring road, the hotel and grounds were very quiet. With Leeds city centre attractions nearby, the hotel has the feel of a country retreat. It’s an ideal spot for a romantic weekend or a midweek business stay.
