3 Day Trips You Can Take From Yorkshire

They don’t call it God’s Own Country for nothing.
In the heart of the North of England is our beloved Yorkshire. Amongst our finest exports are Yorkshire tea, Yorkshire puddings, and our beloved Sean Bean.
If you’re looking to explore a different part of the county, you’re in luck – there is no shortage of wonderful and varied places to visit.
Not to mention, with great connections it’s easy to venture just outside of Yorkshire and visit any number of stunning locations that are a mere train, coach, or car ride away.
In this article, we’ll explore just a few of those options. So whether you’re travelling with family, friends, looking for date ideas, or simply want to escape on your own for the day, these are just three family day trips you can take from Yorkshire.
1. Hebden Bridge
Hebden Bridge is a welcoming and quirky town that prides itself on its local love for creativity. It is home to plenty of independent shops, cafes and restaurants, and is highly welcoming to visitors.
If you have a literary leaning, it is also worth visiting, as its neighbouring village Heptonstall is home to the grave of American poet and novelist Sylvia Plath. Her gravesite has become a pilgrimage for fans to pay homage to her work.
Further attractions include the river and canal, the Picture House (which remains one of the few independent cinemas in the UK), the Hebden Bridge market, and the Hope gallery.
2. Cheshire
Though it’s a little further out than some of the suggestions on this list, Cheshire is a fantastic family day out.
Naturally, its main attraction is Chester Zoo, but Cheshire Oaks makes for a great shopping trip.
While it’s a great spot for day-trippers, it’s also hugely popular with home buyers, and it isn’t hard to see why. Raffle House, who raffle homes in aid of a range of UK charities, currently have a stunning property located there, and it’s easy to see why the place is such a draw.
If you want to make more than a day trip out of the experience, The Reserve hotel at Chester Zoo has private views of the animals, luxury lakeside lodges, and exclusive access opportunities.
3. Ilkley
And back in the heart of it all, Ilkley Moor is home to some of the most stunning views around – and it’s got some stiff competition.
At the top of Ilkley Moor, hardy hikers are rewarded with the Cow & Calf, a rustic pub with a Sunday roast to rival your mum’s, and well stocked bar filled with cask ales, fine wines, and locally-sourced gins.
Alternatively, you might choose to visit Friends of Ham, a wine and charcuterie establishment with local pride and a diverse selection, or Brook’s, a Sri Lankan tapas spot perfect for sharing and experiencing new flavours.
And along The Grove are a range of shops, not least of all the eponymous bookshop, the charming Nora’s Interiors and Gifts, and The Yorkshire Soap Company, who easily give high street toiletry chains a run for their money.
