Things Will Be Different (2024) – Film Review
Director: Michael Felker
Cast: Adam David Thompson, Riley Dandy, Chloe Skoczen
Certificate: 15
By Roger Crow
There are echoes of Looper, the old Bruce Willis sci-fi offering, in this new fantasy drama produced by Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Add a smattering of Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (the rural stuff) and you get the feel of this compelling yarn.
Benson and Moorhead have made a name for themselves as two of the best cult indie filmmakers of recent years, and this does little to de-rail their reputation.
The drama centres on two estranged siblings who lay low at an abandoned farmhouse after evading police following a robbery.
However, when a mysterious force emerges, it makes the pair question everything about themselves – and each other.
“Sustaining the attention”
Adam David Thompson and Riley Dandy do a terrific job of sustaining the attention throughout, and the whole thing is beautifully handled by director Michael Felker.
If, like me, you love a yack track revealing how the whole thing was put together, then audio commentary on the new Blu-ray release adds a fresh take on proceedings.
You might even say that things will be different on the second viewing, which, like some of the best twisty-turn fantasy thrillers, is almost a must.
