A Q&A With Abbey Pierce

Country, Folk-Rock, and Blues from Arkansas…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Down to Earth’ is the final track from my debut EP. It’s my most personal one, written from a place that can be hard to articulate. I wrote it about my relationship with my husband and how he supports me through every emotion. That kind of love is worth staying grounded for.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
Finding time to get into the studio was tough. My band and I have full-time jobs, so scheduling was the biggest hurdle. I really wanted them to be part of it to capture a live, authentic feel.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
I produced this song alongside my friends Eric Spahn and Josh Noren. I had a vision for how it should sound, and they helped amplify it. Eric suggested the repeating tag “bring me back down, bring me back down, baby,” and Josh brought in ethereal backing vocals to lend a nostalgic 90’s country vibe.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I hope they can relate to my songwriting and find something meaningful in it. The more personal I get, the more others seem to connect. I just write what I feel and hope it reaches whoever needs to hear it.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
My songwriting is personal and introspective. I wrote all four songs on my EP myself. I bring a rough guitar arrangement to the band, and we flesh it out together. It’s not entirely live in the studio, but it’s close to what we sound like on stage. I’m also experimenting with other production styles and collaborations.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Kacey Musgraves is a huge inspiration for me. I love how her sound is rooted in country but can fit anywhere. She’s new yet familiar, and that’s what I aim for in my music, too.

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I hear that the UK and parts of Northern Europe really love country music. It would be amazing to share my songs there.

A Q&A With Abbey Pierce

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘Soul Searchin’’ – it captures my optimistic nature and the idea of pushing forward toward being my best self. The outro brings multiple voices together singing “keep on keepin’ on,” highlighting that sense of community in my music.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Ultimately, I’d love to make my “5 to 9” into a “9 to 5.” Until then, I’m balancing a full-time job and pursuing music whenever I can, but I’m hoping my efforts, combined with the internet’s reach, open new doors for me.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
I’m grateful to be able to express myself and form new connections through music. That sense of connection is magic—it reminds us we aren’t alone in this journey.
