A Q&A With J Keys

Essex rapper bringing rockstar energy to house…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Mad About You’. This one is about obsession in its purest form. When you’re so into someone, nothing else really matters. It is raw, simple, and made for those summer nights that turn into mornings.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
To be completely honest, there was nothing hard about this one. It just came to me naturally. I think certain experiences in life help you make better music and definitely more meaningful music.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
I produced this. I enjoyed bringing this to life and adding different elements. I also did an Ibiza sunset remix for this one which is a completely different vibe to the original song, it is super chill and laid back.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I want them to feel something. I want them to take this song and let it become the soundtrack for their summer.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
It all starts with an idea or a life experience. Then as a creative you sit there and think… hey this would make an amazing song.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
That is a tough question for me because I’m a fan of so many different music artists, from Frank Sinatra to Eminem. For this particular project I just went with my heart and what I was feeling at that time.

A Q&A With J Keys

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I would love to tour America purely because I love the country; Space Miami would be sick!

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘Wasting Time’ and ‘Mad About You’. Because that way you would get two of my many personalities.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
I just want to let the world hear my music.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
My name is J KEYS and it was an absolute pleasure to perform for you tonight.
