Von Haus G-series Cordless Grass Trimmer – Review
By Steve Crabtree, September 2024
That garden of ours. It sits there for months, then summer comes and all of a sudden the lawn wants to turn itself into a jungle! It just appears, doesn’t it? Quick action’s needed to keep it neat and tidy then…otherwise you pass that point where you just don’t want to tackle it.
After another frustrating afternoon, untangling extension leads for my old, clunky strimmer, a heart-to-heart with my wife led us to decide it was time for a change. The thought of a lightweight, cordless trimmer for spontaneous garden tidying was strong. That’s when the Von Haus G-series Cordless Grass Trimmer caught our eye, promising ease and efficiency with a touch of modern technology.

What VonHaus say…
“The VonHaus Cordless 20V Max. Grass Trimmer delivers all the power you need to get your garden looking neat and pristine – without the hassle of power cords, extension leads or petrol fumes. Thanks to a 180° adjustable trimmer head, achieving accurate border edges and trimming the tightest corners is quick and fuss-free.”
Substantially durable
Putting it together was child’s play; the instructions were a breeze, leading to a quick assembly. The instructions are very clear, and anyone could do it. It took me less than five minutes to put together, and as I lifted the assembled strimmer for the first time, its weight surprised me. Very light—substantial enough to feel durable yet light enough for easy handling.
The battery was on charge for a couple of hours, and that clicked into place nice and easily. I was ready to take on the wilderness of my back garden.
Reaching into the nooks
The first outing…wow. As I trimmed the edges of our garden, the trimmer glided through the overgrown grass with ease. The 180° adjustable trimmer head was a godsend, reaching into the nooks that my old trimmer would have baulked at.
The safety guard is robust too, protecting plants while I tackled this unruly grass. The flowers remained untouched, and it stops the sleepers around the side of the lawn from getting those unsightly nicks as well.
I absolutely loved my first go with the VonHaus Cordless Grass Trimmer. And the fact it works like a grab-n-go machine, as opposed to unravelling a flex, digging out an extension cable, connecting it up and making a mess putting it all away again, is perfect for me.
Putting the joy back into gardening
In fact over the last few weeks, my time with the Von Haus G-series has brought a bit of joy back into gardening. It’s transformed what was once a cumbersome chore into a delightful half-hour of taming nature. The adjustable handle, syncing perfectly to my height, made the work surprisingly comfortable. It was never like that with the cumbersome old strimmer I used for too long.
What I also like is that when the inevitable happens, swapping out blades is refreshingly simple. No more fiddling with spools of wire every few minutes. The battery life was impressive, consistently running long enough to complete my tasks without a mid-job charge. Its light frame meant I could whisk through the garden without the usual dread of heavy lifting or dragging cords around.
Oh – and I’ve used it in the wet, and it works as well as it does in better weather. Meaning that I can do bits (if I want to) through the winter.
The Verdict
The Von Haus G-series Cordless Grass Trimmer has really won me over. What a brilliant device it is, my only issue being that I didn’t grab one of these many summers ago.
It’s dependable, powerful, and a pleasure to use. For anyone looking to replace an old strimmer, or stepping into the world of gardening, this tool offers performance and pleasure. And that’s hard to beat. Its simplicity, effectiveness, and the sheer ease it brings to garden maintenance means it gets a big thumbs up from me!
