What Are You Looking For In A Job/Potential Employer?

If you are looking for a new job, then there are certain things that you’re going to want from your job or your potential employers. It’s important for your own sake that you figure out what these are before you start going to interviews, as the last thing that you want is to accept a position that doesn’t actually work for you. As long as you keep your expectations realistic, there’s nothing wrong with having them.
In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at some of the things that you may be looking for in a potential employer or job to give you a place to start. Are you interested in learning more? You know what to do if you are.
An Understanding Approach
It might be important to you that your boss, or whoever it is that you meet with has an understanding approach to business. This is not to say that you want to slack off and not work hard all of the time, or that you plan to be late constantly, but it’s reassuring to know that if something does happen you’re not going to be reprimanded on the spot.
There are too many companies these days that don’t actually care about the people that work for them, they only care about the numbers for the business. Employers need to remember that their employees are people too, and sometimes unavoidable things happen. If you don’t get this kind of vibe and you feel more like you will be publicly shamed when things go wrong, then this is not the place for you.
A Strong Led Business
When you are interviewing for a position, try to ascertain how strong the leader of the business is if you can. If they are not present, you can do this through asking questions about how the business is run, the morale, the success rate and so much more. The more information that you gather, the easier it should be for you to make a decision on how well led the business is. If it’s not well led from what you can tell, then working here is likely going to be a nightmare, and you risk the company going under at any moment.
You want a strong led business as it will give you more security in the long run. You don’t want to be afraid for your job every single day, right?
Specific Incentives
It’s also a fantastic idea to look at the incentives that are being offered by employers. If you have a look around and what is considered ‘normal’ to offer as incentives, and use this to determine what you are and are not willing to accept. This should help you when you are being offered jobs as it will let you know whether or not there is a good enough reason to accept, other than the job itself.
For example, you may have heard about how some businesses offer better incentives and benefits than others, so why should you get less than you deserve? Perhaps you want to look for a company that offers a salary sacrifice company car so that you can save some money on getting a car. Or, maybe the amount of holiday is the most important thing to you. Whatever it is, have this in the back of your mind at all times.
The Possibility Of Career Mobility
The last thing that we want to say is that most employees want to have some kind of career mobility. You want to be able to move up the ranks, and if there is no possibility of this in some businesses then they may not be the right place for you.
You need to decide if you are happy where you are in your career, knowing you won’t be able to move up the ladder, or if you will hate yourself for settling for that. The latter is only settling if you’re not happy where you are, it’s a personal decision.
At the end of the day, only you really know what you are looking for in a job and a potential employer. The thing that we want you to remember is that there are certain things for you that are going to be non-negotiable and you need to stick with that. However if it gets to a point where there is no job out there for you because nobody matches your high standards, maybe you should think about adjusting them to become slightly more realistic.
