A Q&A With Anders L. Rasmussen

From Hard Rock Roots to Singer-Songwriter…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
My next release…is my take on the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic, ‘Simple Man’. This song is one of my all-time favourites because everything about it—the lyrics, vocal lines, melodies, guitar solo, arrangement, and overall sound—just resonates deeply with me.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
When covering a track, something I’m not very used to, I try to stay close to the original. If I made a completely new version, I might as well write my own songs. That said, I still have to put my own stamp on it, so finding that balance was the real challenge: how to preserve all the elements I love while adding a personal touch.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
I produced this release myself. With this solo project, I enjoy having total control over every part of the process—this is my playground, and I love getting hands-on.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I hope the audience finds joy in it—something they’ll want to play multiple times. I aim for a certain nerve or uniqueness, and hopefully the lyrics resonate with many listeners.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
Ideas just pop up from nowhere. Sometimes a melody comes first and I figure out the chords, or sometimes it starts with a riff. I record everything on my phone. After a few days, if it still grabs me, I might demo it on my computer. From there, I shape it into a proper song.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Jason Isbell, especially with The 400 Unit, really kicked me into action. His approach to songwriting and live performance inspired me to pursue my own music seriously.

A Q&A With Anders L. Rasmussen

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
It’s still very early days for this project, so for now I’m focusing on local gigs. Maybe later this year I’ll book shows around the country. We’ll see how it develops!

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
Right now, I’d say listen to ‘Simple Man’… Even though it’s a cover, it sets the tone for the original music I’ll be releasing later this year.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Firstly, I want to enjoy the journey. If some kind of success comes my way—like recognition from listeners and the press—that’d be great. But the key is to stay passionate and keep creating.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Thank you! I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to reach potential new fans. An audience is what drives this whole thing forward.
