A Q&A With Rebecca and Fiona

Producer & DJ pop duo…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Heartbeat’ is about a love that keeps you dancing on the edge of madness. When the whole world burns down around you, it’s hard to find your way through the chaos. And within that fire, your love is both your compass and your tempest. The beat is inspired by Londonbeat!

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
It was hard to decide the tempo, it was a bit slower from the beginning and it took some time getting used to in a faster bpm haha!

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
We’ve had a long period of navigating through our broad taste in electronic music. It has been very rewarding and has made us better writers and producers overall, but it feels like we have made our way back home somehow. For us MEGA DANCE feels simple, pure, and fun. That’s what we hope you’re gonna feel too.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
We’ve never had a set from of the creative process. It’s depending on the vibe and setting we’re in. But it often starts off by ourselves with an idea of a beat or track that we sketch some vocals on.. and then we send it back and forth like a “vikgubbe” or meet together in the studio for a session. But to be honest, we are hopeless bed producers so we usually stay there until it’s time to do the final touches hehe!

A Q&A With Rebecca and Fiona

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Production-wise, we decided to take inspiration from the music that initially opened up the world of dance music for us—our first electronic loves such as Rollergirl, Ace of Base, Leila K, and Scooter. It’s where breakbeats and acid basslines meet fast piano rolls and corny synth leads. The song melodies and lyrics come from the same naive and innocent place as when we took our first steps onto the dance floors, but they still feel like classic Rebecca & Fiona style.

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
We really want to tour around Europe. We’ve done way too little shows there and it feels wrong and stupid.

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
Rollergirl – ‘Luv u More’.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Babies, babes and big romantic gestures.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Thank you thank you, far too kind! Or as we say in Swedish “arena arena, de e nu de händer!”
