A Q&A with Planets

Planets: Alt-Rock Energy with Powerful Songwriting
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Winner’ is our first release for 2025 and a tribute to those who set aside their ambitions for family and others. It’s also a personal message to myself—it’s never too late to turn things around.
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
Capturing the energy and power we imagined through new production. We didn’t want to lose the aggression and vibe of our sound, so the pressure was on—especially after the success of our second release.
Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
We worked with Nathan Cucharo at Bakery Records in South London. His expertise, incredible equipment, and creative input helped push the track to its full potential. He blended into our dynamic seamlessly and made the sessions feel easy.
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
We want each song to have its own spirit and energy—bold, powerful, and unrestrained by genre boundaries. Even when writing about serious themes, we want the music to feel uplifting and impactful.
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
The process starts with a melody that keeps coming back to me. I develop a structure, then Charlotte brings the ideas to life with her vocals and harmonies. The writing always stems from personal experiences that stay with me.
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
For me, James Hetfield’s heavy playing style and songwriting have always been a huge inspiration. Charlotte draws from Kate Bush—she commits to the feeling of a song and brings it to life with an instinctive musical ear.
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
We’d love to tour North and South America—most of our listeners are there, and we’re inspired by the vast history of the region. Dream venues? The Whisky a Go Go, the Fillmore, and Red Rock. But honestly, we’ll play anywhere!
If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘SIGNS’—it was the first song I wrote when Charlotte and I started working together, and I know it wouldn’t sound anything like it does without her.
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Right now, it’s all about making the best possible music, growing our audience, and securing festival slots. We’re releasing new tracks every 6-7 weeks to keep up momentum. Long-term, we’d love to be preparing for a debut album and tour.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
We are Planets, but it’s the stars that keep us in sight. Thank you.
