A Q&A With Oreagonomics

Lo-fi, psychedelic soul with social reflection…

What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
Our new album is called Locked Out on Valentine’s Day and I, personally, didn’t come up with it. David, our guitarist and general noise maker, did. What I think it refers to is being gatekept from a commercial holiday in which you can achieve love.

What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
It’s an album about relationships, not just in the smashing sense but the relationship with self and modern life in America.

Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
We produced it ourselves. I enjoyed that we were able to achieve beautiful things on a budget.

What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I want people to vibe, enjoy, and think if even a little. Thinking ain’t illegal yet.

How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
There is no singular process. Sometimes it’s music first, sometimes it’s lyrics. It does always come down to we have a blueprint and then sweat out the execution.

What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Oh my. Lots. Curtis Mayfield, Obongjayar, the local Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, Percy Faith, Wire, Talking Heads.

What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
Ha! None. We are open to bookings but not touring.

If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
There’s a lot of easily digestible songs on this album. ‘Gotta Habit Gotta Have It’ was my favourite to record and does well.

What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Making a profit.

Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
This album has free beautiful parts you can listen to while doing whatever you want. It would be toxic to ask for more.
