A Q&A with Open Window

Nostalgic modern rock driven by and classic songwriting…
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Close Your Eyes’. ‘Close Your Eyes’ was the first new song we wrote once we ended our lengthy hiatus. Lyrically, at its core, the song is about someone who must go on a very long journey, perhaps forever, but must leave someone they love behind.
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
Let’s see, the writing process seemed to flow on this one. I (Daniel) have been working with James and Wayne for a number of years, and we have developed a good chemistry between us, and the song came together without incident. The recording of the song and the video shoot went similarly. So, I would say there was nothing terribly hard with regard to the creative components. Perhaps the hardest part was us being patient. First, we were anticipating the shoot date. Next, we had to wait for the editing and post processes. And, finally, waiting for the release date.
Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
The audio recording was produced by me (Daniel), recorded with Studio Owner/Engineer Chris Rondinella, and mixed by Ryan Green (NOFX, Tonic, Alice Cooper, Jay-Z). I (Daniel) have previously produced a number of projects in the past, but I don’t prefer producing my own work. We really self-produced this album out of budget and timeline constraints.
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
Any reaction is welcome. I (Daniel) come from the school of thought where we create the music for ourselves, but once it’s released and/or performed, the song now belongs to the listener to interpret any way they see fit.
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
Do you mean the recording process? Generally, the recording process for us is a collaborative effort of ideas and musical input. We usually go into the studio with a well-rehearsed version of the song. However, once we start recording, we keep open minds to possibilities of change. We usually record the band playing live hoping to capture a great Drum and Bass take. From there we use multi-track techniques to add guitars, other instruments, and vocals.
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Some in no particular order would be Zeppelin, Van Halen, Beatles, Beach Boys, Queen, Radiohead, U2, and the list goes on.
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
Anywhere with a killer sound system and where our fans would appreciate us to be.
If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
I’d say ‘Close Your Eyes’ is a reasonable example of our sound. Although, we have faster tempo harder rock songs and a couple of slower ballad-type songs on the album, too.
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
Currently, we are promoting our music video ‘Close Your Eyes’. Looking forward, we are in the process of organising a 2026 Tour. We plan to release another song in January, followed by the release of our full-length album in early 2026. We plan to start touring extensively throughout 2026.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Because I can’t hear your voice’s inflection, I’m not sure if you mean “leave the stage” figuratively or literally.
Literally – Thank you and Good Night!
Figuratively – Thank you for your thoughtful and introspective questions. And thank you so much for your time.
