A Q&A with Kind Villain

Kind Villain: Next Gen Pop-Rock with no rules pop
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
The title is ‘Bedroom Genius’ and the song is a rollercoaster of sound and emotions based around the experience of the modern-day dreamer, trying to push through and survive in today’s social media world. This song has a special place in my heart because I go through this everyday and I always wondered if others felt the same emotions and pain that I did. This one is for the people who dream, never give up.
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
The instrumentation was crazy on this song, shout out to my producer and collaborator Paul for somehow making it work, it definitely jumps around a lot. It’s tough to get such different structures and tones to work and make it fit.
Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do you enjoy most about producing your own material?
Paul Trust produced ‘Bedroom Genius’ and he is also a big reason why the song sounds the way it does. He brings experience, expertise, and an out-of-the-box way of thinking, which makes me excited to work with him.
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I want them to be inspired and to understand that it’s okay to be you and to be human. You are not alone.
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
It’s different every time it usually starts with a title or a conversation that we have and then it leads to a song idea but not all the time. For example ‘I’m A Little Off’ came from a conversation between Paul and I and ‘Bad Decisions’ came from a guitar riff. We let the songs write themselves.
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Linkin Park is the reason I started making music. Green Day, MGK and Yungblud inspired me to be bold and honest. Prince made me want to go for crazy ideas, and Taylor Swift made me want to write in the first place.
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I would love to go to Europe, South America, Asia basically everywhere. My ancestors are from the UK and I live in the United States so it would be so cool to be able to tour England. Any venue that has a fun audience is a great venue to me.
If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘Bedroom Genius’ is a good track as it shows the experimental and personal side of what makes Kind Villain special. Kind Villain makes music for the underdogs.
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
I would love Kind Villain to be at headliner status and beyond, but my main goal is to bring positive energy and hope to people around the world.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Love yourself and be who you want to be. Be Kind stay Villain
