Three Horses to Follow for the Flat Season Ahead

The Flat season is well underway and this time of year is a fine one for spotting potential superstars ahead of the Classics and Royal Ascot.
The Craven meeting at Newmarket in April often throws up talented individuals, along with lower key meetings. We have selected three horses worth following for the remainder of the season.
Competitive odds can be found throughout the spring and summer months as high-class racing comes thick and fast. Look out for horse racing betting sites that offer a number of promotions to spend on the action.
1. Adaay Of Scarlett
Northern-based trainer Hugo Palmer and former footballer Michael Owen could have a very smart Royal Ascot two-year-old on their hands with Adaay Of Scarlett.
The son of Mehmas, out of talented mare Adaay To Remember, was an impressive winner of a five furlong novice stakes on day one of the Newmarket Craven meeting. The winning margin was four-and-a-quarter lengths.
Jockey Oisin Murphy was in the saddle and was confident he had a winner under him on the way to post, while Palmer is keen to get another run into him before the Royal meeting. He feels a step up to six furlongs will suit.
2. Portcullis
Another spectacular debut success on Newmarket’s Rowley mile in mid-April was from unraced three-year-old, Portcullis, who carried the colours of the King and Queen to victory over a mile.
This big strapping newcomer missed the break and ran green out of stalls, however once the penny dropped, he picked up nicely under Ryan Moore, running on well to score by five-and-a-half-lengths.
Trainers John and Thady Gosden were keen not to get too over excited and will look for a novice next for the son of Frankel as a stepping stone to bigger things.
This victory will be popular among the royal family as the late Queen Elizabeth II had determined the mating plans for the colt prior to her death in 2022.
3. Convergent
Trainer Karl Burke, based in Yorkshire, has a high-class type on his hands in Convergent who looks a potential Group 1 performer.
The four-year-old was a pleasing winner of a Group 3 contest at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance in mid-April and holds an entry in the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom on June 6.
