A Q&A with Dreamz
Storytelling grime and rap with Dreamz…
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘No One’s Listening’. It means a lot to me as it’s about men’s mental health which needs to be addressed more. And so that men can speak out on emotions that they are holding in.
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
Promo and trying to release it on a good date where it’s not released too early or too late and also getting the song to sound perfect (to me) so it can rock well because I wanted the message of the song to be loud and clear.
Who produced the release – what did they bring to it? If you produced it yourselves what do enjoy most about producing your own material?
DJ FIZ and 2 producers from my label Acacia and Prodigy-ej, the idea was very enjoyable and now we structured the vocals to sound rougher in some parts and more polished in other parts of the song
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
That you might feel alone, but to remember that you are never alone.
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
I freestyle over beat then write out lyrics and record them.
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Dave massively because the way he can tell stories through his songs
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
Amsterdam, USA, Netherlands, France are just some on the list.
If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
‘We Rise’ as you can hear the power of speech when I rap when I want people to hear the message I’m trying to put across.
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
To perform in front of a crowd of people who know the lyrics to my song and to also start up a clothing brand which symbolizes me as a character, I also want to get into modelling and acting as I think I would be pretty good at it.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Remember to be true to yourself.
‘We Rise’ is inspired by the 60th anniversary of the Bristol Bus Boycott
