Living in a house with a large open-plan living room that flows straight into the kitchen means we probably use that space more than most. It’s the heart of the home, but it also means we get a bit more than just the usual cooking mess. Especially when the dog likes to trot between the two rooms, have a wander outside, and then muddy up the laminate in the kitchen.
Mopping has become a daily chore, and let’s be honest: the old mop and bucket is a faff. You’re changing the water three times, waiting an age for the floor to dry, and then trying to find somewhere to store the dripping mess. When I saw the VonHaus 2-in-1 Floor and Handheld Steam Cleaner, it seemed to offer exactly what we needed, but with a whole lot more besides.

“A click and connect setup”
The box arrived fairly compact, and inside were quite a few well-packed pieces. At first glance, I thought I might be in for a bit of a puzzle to put this together, but it was actually very straightforward. Everything is essentially a click-and-connect design—the tank clicks into the handle once you’ve folded it out, the mop head snaps on, and the power lead is already connected to the main unit.
I did have a brief dilemma wondering how the pads attached to the bottom of the mop head. They use a velcro system, but there’s also a carpet glider attachment included if you want to refresh your rugs. This was the only part of the instructions that wasn’t 100% clear, but I soon worked it out. Within minutes, I had a full upright steamer ready to tackle the kitchen.
What’s more – it’s sturdy and looks a nice bit of kit too. Like a premium cleaning product that should cost more than it actually does.
“Ready in seconds”
It was time to give the 2-in-1 Floor and Handheld Steam Cleaner its first go. And using it is a breeze. You get a small cup and funnel to fill the tank; I was actually a bit skeptical at first because the cup looked tiny compared to the machine and the size of the floor I was about to tackle, but I did as I was told and used the correct amount.
To turn it on, you simply push a button and then toggle a light bar to choose your steam power—the more lights you light up, the more powerful the steam. The speed it heated up was the first thing that really impressed me. Within about 25 seconds, the mop was steaming and it was ready for use. And the steam looked powerful too; I was actually quite excited to give it a whirl.
In fairness, the floor didn’t look that dirty, but there were certainly a few marks left from shoes and dog prints that were in danger of embedding themselves into the white laminate. I glided over the marks a couple of times and saw they’d lifted pretty well, but for the really stubborn ones, I just pushed the mop over them slowly. Lo and behold, the dirt vanished.
Handheld performance
Suitably impressed, I carried on doing the whole floor. My suspicions about the water levels were quickly put to bed, too, as there was still plenty of water left in that tank even after a full clean. The best part? It had come up so clean and had dried almost instantly in most spots. With the old mop and bucket, we’d still be seeing damp patches 30 minutes later and doing that awkward tiptoe across the room.
The only real difference you notice is the smell. Because you don’t need floor cleaner or bleach, you miss out on that “just cleaned” scent that lingers, but the plus point is you don’t have the stink of chemicals either – and the steam does the disinfecting for you anyway.
I then unclipped the tank to see what it could do as a handheld unit on the kitchen island. Again, it looked fairly clean to the eye, but the attachment for tiny crevices blew a load of hidden crumbs and bits from beneath the built-in induction hob. I even found some stuck-on sauce that just seemed to evaporate in front of my eyes.
A quick wipe over with a spray afterwards to get that fresh scent, and the whole thing looked dazzling. And not to forget, you can use this piece of kit on carpets, curtains, clothing, windowsills, and in cupboards. It’s versatility is incredible, and I’m really glad we own one in our house now.

The verdict
I am properly impressed with this bit of kit. I managed to mop the floor and deep-clean the kitchen island in less than five minutes. And that included getting the machine out, filling it, and putting it away. It’s quiet, simple to use, and far more effective than a standard mop.
My initial worries about the small water tank were totally unfounded too. There was plenty left over even after a full clean. And it’s great to know you can just rip off the microfibre pad, chuck it in the washing machine, and be done with it.
I love how it’s quick to set up, simple to use, and can be put away just as quickly. No bucket taking up excess room…often with mucky residue in the bottom that needs scrubbing out.
If you’ve got a busy house, a dog with muddy paws, or just a lot of floor to cover, this is a cracking investment. It genuinely makes life easier.
