5 European Destinations for a Spring Holiday
Are you keen to escape the lingering chill of the UK and head to sunnier shores this spring? Then we’ve got you covered!
Here, we explore five of the best destinations in Europe for a warm spring getaway.
1. Seville, Spain
Sat in Andalusia in southern Spain, Seville is the perfect place to visit during the spring months. The city is largely dry and warm year-round thanks to its Mediterranean climate, and the shoulder season of late spring means pleasant temperatures and sunshine for exploring without the summer holiday crowds.
During your trip, you could head to a flamenco show, enjoy a cruise along the Guadalquivir River or paddle through the city’s canals by kayak. Make sure you visit the impressive Cathedral de Sevilla, Plaza de Espana and Parque de Maria Luisa.
2. Crete, Greece
While Greece becomes a furnace in July and August, the spring climate is reliably balmy, perfect for exploring on foot amongst the countryside wildflowers, along the coastline or around ancient cultural sites. For an island that perfectly balances adventure and beach relaxation, this is the weather you want for an unmatched experience.
As the largest Greek island, there’s plenty to do and see in Crete. Head to the beautiful city of Chania, where you can meander through narrow cobbled streets and enjoy a bite to eat in a waterfront restaurant. You could also spend a day relaxing on the beach, discovering the historic palace of Knossos or exploring the Heraklion Archaeological Museum.
3. The Algarve, Portugal
Known for its long stretches of golden sand and bright blue waters, the Algarve on Portugal’s wild west coast is a picture-perfect spring holiday destination.
It’s a true paradise for beach lovers, so this is the place to be if you love sun, sea and sand. As well as soaking in the incredible coastal scenery, you can head for an afternoon of golf or take to the water to spot dolphins. If sightseeing is your thing, visit the historical centre of Faro where you can see centuries-old architecture.
4. Antalya, Turkey
Holidays to Turkey are a great choice for warm spring trips due to the mild weather. In Antalya, the temperature gradually increases throughout spring, with pleasant temperatures ideal for swimming in late April and May.
There are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy here. After sunbathing on the beach, you can parasail, dive into the depths or enjoy a spot of windsurfing. If you head inland, you can hike in the mountains or get your adrenaline pumping on a white-water raft.
5. Sicily, Italy
Spring in Sicily provides a warm climate, with increasing amounts of sunshine through the day. The average high temperature in March is 18.6 Celsius, climbing to 26.8 Celsius in May, so you can be confident of exploring the island in pleasant conditions when you visit during the season.
Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean with plenty to offer spring holidaymakers. You could visit the iconic Mount Etna, discover the ancient Valley of the Temples or wander around the ancient city of Syracuse. After exploring, wind down at the beach or sample delicious vino at one of the island’s vineyards.
There are plenty of incredible European destinations to visit during the spring. Which will you choose?
