A Q&A with EMMMA
Indie-pop from Westport, CT…
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
‘Playing it Safe’ is my latest release. It marks the beginning of a new era that I am so excited to share with everyone!
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
I think it was probably the message of the song affecting me, I’ve written about not taking enough risks and not living my life to the fullest and I have found that I definitely do that a lot, and it serves as a reminder to be the main role in my own life!
Who produced the release – what did they bring to it?
Doug Schadt produced this song, he has such a great sense of creating an atmosphere within the song and I really think he was able to convey the feeling of being angry about playing everything just a bit too easy.
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I want the listener to feel like they aren’t alone if they have been feeling a little stagnant, or like they aren’t taking enough risks. I get it, I am the same way. Maybe together we can conquer our fears!
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
I will usually come in with a concept, and chat about how I’m feeling about this concept with my producer and co-writer. We’ll then lay down some chords, and then see if any melody flows from that. Then we’ll start with the lyrics!
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
I am always influenced by artists like Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgers, and then other artists come into the mix as well like Maggie Rogers, Holly Humberstone, and MUNA.
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I would really love to tour around the UK/EU. I love the culture and history there and everyone is so nice! Glastonbury Festival is a dream of mine.
If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what
would you pick, and why?
Since ‘Playing it Safe’ is the first song out, I’d say that one! Lots more to come 😉
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
I really want to be able to tour the world and share my music with new audiences across the entire globe.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
Thank you so much for being here and supporting my journey, this is just the beginning and I am so excited for what’s to come!
