Edifier MG300 Multimedia Soundbar Review

By Steve Crabtree, February 2025

As my step-daughter Meghan is now at that age where she ventures into the world of gaming, her mum and I found ourselves exploring the essential peripherals that enhance the gaming experience for a tweenager without breaking the bank.

The Edifier MG300 Multimedia Soundbar Speaker, with its budget-friendly promise and gaming-centric design, caught our eye as a potential enhancement to her gaming sessions.

What’s in the Box

  • 1x Edifier MG300 speaker

First Impressions

Taking the Edifier MG300 out of its box, the speaker is pretty light. Aesthetically, I like the softer lines on my tech, and this has quite a neat, angular design which meets the modern gaming setup look.

It’s a nice, compact size and that let it nestle nicely under her TV, fitting in well to her gaming space. Set-up was a breeze, with a simple USB connection directly into the Xbox, the power and audio combined in one cable.

But it was all about Meghan, and what she thought of it counted more. The first thing she noticed was the RGB lighting, which brings in an immersive, customisable look with six colour mode settings, including a dynamic mode that cycles through all options. The soundbar’s black noir colourway and subtle lighting along the edges makes it very attractive to a gamer.  Add that to its lighter but high-quality feel, and she was pleased she’d got this nice bit of tech for her room.

Performance

The MG300’s sound performance is impressive for its price. Equipped with 52mm speakers and 2.5W dual drivers, it delivers clear, well-tuned audio that’s surprisingly deep for its size. While it’s not on par with high-end audio equipment, it’s perfectly suited for enhancing the gaming experience.

As Meghan took me on at (and lost!) at EA Sports FC, the sound coming from the Edifier was nice. I wouldn’t say too bass-y, but a good few levels above her tv output. Minecraft (a game I do not, and vow never to try and understand) gave her nice music along with more effective effects – so, it’s definitely a winner.

Sound effects were in sync with the game, but we did notice a slight delay when connecting via Bluetooth to a mobile device. A minor quibble that might not affect most users.

And the buttons on the top of the unit are useful for control. They might take a bit of getting used to if you’re an adult like me…not if you’re 12, pushing teenage years already!

What Edifier Say

  • Complete with RGB cool lighting effect, unique design with simple and easy connection
  • Dual customized 52mm full-range speakers with dual inverter tubes that deliver natural treble and powerful bass.
  • Hidden mic covered with a silicone top that isolates external vibrations and ensures crystal clear voice calls.
  • Bluetooth V5.3 chipset consumes less power, transmits faster, and has a connection range up to 30m.

The Verdict

Well, it’s definitely a hit in our house.  The look, feel and performance made Meghan happy, and it’s a staple part of her gaming experience now.

It fits nicely in her room, doesn’t cause any space problems, and bring a bit of atmosphere to my step-daughter’s game play, rather than just sitting in front of her TV to play.

Yes – there’s room for improvement to appeal to a wider audience. And a potential improvement could be switching from the fixed USB cable. In fact, Meghan asked “If that breaks, is that it?” (after I noted my surprise). And yep, it probably is! I don’t think she’d come across a fixed USB cable before, and whilst it might simplify setup, it could pose a long-term concern if it were to fail. Perhaps a replaceable lead is something they could consider for future iterations of the Edifier MG300.

But overall, the Edifier MG300 Multimedia Speaker is a winner. It proves its place as a budget-friendly soundbar, offering significant value for its cost. With its stylish design, versatile RGB lighting, and impressive audio quality, it’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to enhance their desktop gaming. At an affordable price point, this makes it a smart purchase for casual gamers.

The Edifier MG300 Multimedia Soundbar Speaker is available at amazon.co.uk. RRP £59.00
