The Many Faces of Mobile Gaming

The Many Faces of Mobile Gaming (2)

Mobile gaming has come a long way, and the result is a platform that’s perceived differently by multiple different groups. To some, it’s still stuck in the same place that it was ten or more years ago, but others will have a more familiar perspective of where it sits today.

Making yourself aware of these multiple perspectives can help you to ask again whether mobile gaming is something that you’re potentially interested in, as there might be much more to it now than you’re giving it credit for.

RPGs

To many gaming fans, the thought of vast and immersive role-playing games might seem joined at the hip with console or PC gaming. These might feel like the only machines possible of running the kinds of games that you’re interested in playing, but you might be underestimating how far modern mobile hardware has come. Not only are smartphones capable of playing many famous, classic role-playing games like Final Fantasy VII, but they also offer many bespoke mobile exclusive games.

Either way might end up being ways of further exploring a genre that you love, either by going back in time to core, foundational titles that paved the way for the more modern games that you’re familiar with, or by stepping sideways into how the genre has evolved and expanded. Smartphones also have access to massively multiplayer online RPGs as well, if you feel like adding a social element to your gaming.

Short-Form Gaming

There’s also a wealth of short-form gaming experiences for you to explore. This might be through rogue-lite/like games such as FTL: Faster Than Light, which let you finish a whole ‘run’ of the game in an hour or two. Breaking games down into bitesize chunks as opposed to a long campaign can make it feel more manageable and approachable. Alternatively, if you’re new to gaming, it might be that something familiar is the best way to go. Through online casinos or independent venues, you can play bingo or other similar games, which can also represent a short-form way to spend your free time, filling time spent waiting around with an easy and accessible distraction.

Multiplayer Games

If you feel like adding a social element to your gaming, there’s a whole wealth of multiplayer games that you can explore. Some of these might even be ports of games that you’ll find on other consoles that you can play with players across platforms – such as Rocket League or Fortnite. Therefore, if you’re interested in playing games that are popular in online communities, it might be a comfort to know that you don’t need a whole dedicated console to play them.

You might even be using mobile gaming as a way to test the waters, to see if gaming is a hobby that you’re interested in taking further. Being able to play games that are popular on other consoles in the same lobbies as those players, can be a much better indication than feeling like you’re locked out.
