A Q&A with The Kyle Jordan Project

Roots rock and raw resilience, from Canada…
What’s the title of your latest release, and what does it mean to you?
Our latest release, ‘Demons,’ holds a huge amount of meaning for me. This song is about confronting inner battles, and for me, it’s closely tied to my journey of facing a brain tumor. That diagnosis forced me to come face-to-face with some of my deepest fears and vulnerabilities—my own “demons.” Music became my way to work through it all, and ‘Demons’ captures that struggle, that fight to find resilience and purpose in the face of something so challenging.
What was the hardest part about putting this release together, and why?
The hardest part about putting ‘Demons’ together was definitely revisiting some of the darkest moments of my life. I know that it meant something different for all of us, but the message remains the same. There’s a rawness to this song that comes from tapping into those real feelings, y’know?
What do enjoy most about producing your own material?
Producing our own material is something we enjoy a lot. There’s a freedom to it—you’re not answering to anyone else’s vision, so you can really dig into what feels true to you. Erick takes the lead on the production—he is a brilliant producer. Greg and I tend to lead the songwriting process, but Erick is a highly talented songwriter as well. All of this allows us to be as raw and real as possible without any outside pressure. I love that we can stay fully authentic to what we’re trying to say, making sure the final product truly reflects our experiences and emotions.
What do you want the listener to take away from listening to your music?
I want listeners to walk away from our music feeling understood, inspired, and maybe even a little more connected to themselves and others. Our songs are about real-life struggles, victories, and everything in between, so my hope is that people hear something in the music that resonates with their own experiences. Whether it’s a song like ‘Demons,’ which confronts inner battles, or something lighter—like our upcoming release, ‘Tall Blonde Honey’—that brings a smile, I want each track to feel like an honest reflection of what it means to be human.
How does a track normally come together? Can you tell us something about the process?
Our process for creating a track usually starts with an idea or a rough sketch, often something I’ll bring to the table—a melody, a riff, a lyrical theme, or a full song that I want to explore. From there, it’s a true team effort. I’ll work with Greg, who has a talent for adding layers and arrangements that really bring the initial idea to life, making it feel fuller and more dynamic. Erick, with his production skills, comes in to shape the sound, adding textures and tones that match the vibe we’re going for.
What band/artists have influenced you the most since you started this project, and why?
Since starting The Kyle Jordan Project, I’ve been influenced by a mix of artists who bring depth, honesty, and raw energy to their music. Bands like Imagine Dragons, The Glorious Sons, and Rival Sons have been huge inspirations. They have this way of blending powerful, anthemic sounds with real, often intense storytelling that resonates with me. Artists like Hozier and Noah Kahan inspire me with their introspective, soulful approach. They’re masters at turning personal experiences into songs that feel universal, which is something I aim for in my own music.
What countries would you like to tour? Are there any standout venues you’d like to play in?
I’d love to take The Kyle Jordan Project on the road to places all over the world—Canada, the U.S., Europe, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia. As for standout venues, the Georgia Theatre has always been one I’d love to play—it has such a rich history and vibe. Revisiting places like the Cook County Saloon in Edmonton and playing festivals would be incredible. Anywhere that brings people together for the love of music is where I want to be.
If you could pick one track for our readers to listen to in order to get a taste of your music, what would you pick, and why?
If I had to pick one track for your readers to dive into, it would definitely be ‘Demons.’ This song really captures the essence of what The Kyle Jordan Project is about—raw storytelling, powerful guitars, and that drive to confront life’s toughest battles.
What ambitions do you have for the band/your career?
My ambitions for The Kyle Jordan Project are big but grounded in a genuine desire to connect with people through music. Touring internationally would be incredible, especially in places like Canada, the US, Europe, and Australia, where we could share our music with diverse audiences. I want The Kyle Jordan Project to be a name that people trust for authenticity and heart.
Finally, as you leave the stage, what are your parting words?
As I leave the stage, my parting words would be simple: “Thank you for being here and sharing this moment with us. Life’s short, so keep connecting, keep loving, and keep chasing what makes you feel alive. Until next time, stay real and stay strong.”
