The Turks and Caicos Islands are a group of around forty tropical islands off the coast of the Bahamas, on the Atlantic Ocean. They are a part of the British Overseas Territory. They are one of those islands untouched by the cruelties of humanity yet. When to visit
Turks and Caicos are ideal for visiting in April and May. It is in late spring when travel discounts are available, as there are fewer tourists, which also allows you to have a unique and peaceful experience. However the weather here is pleasant all the year round, so you don’t need to worry about being too cold or hot there. These islands can be reached by air transport; the beautiful islands have a welcoming vibe the moment you get off the aeroplane. 1. Parrot Cay
Had an exhausting day of travel? And all you want is some peace? Head straight to Parrot Cay. There are a number of hotels and resorts there, most of them, right above the water. From the Parrot Cay resorts, you can spend a whole day indoors while enjoying the sea breeze and a clear view of the sea, rather ocean. You can go for a cool dip right from the cottage above the waters. It is an ideal spot for couples who are on a romantic honeymoon.
2. Cockburn Town
Visiting the islands, but not the capital? It’s not fair. Cockburn Town, other than its unique name stands out for its historical architecture. The buildings are built in old Bermudan styles and are present along the shore as well. There are prisons and jails present that date back to their colonised times, which surprisingly are still intact. There is a museum called the Turks and Caicos museum if you are interested in knowing more about the history of the islands. They also contain parts of a shipwreck from the 16th century.
This place is one of the most demanded tourist destinations in the whole world. It has been placed in the upper tiers for its tourist attractions by a majority of global websites. Providenciales or locally called Provo has an international airport thus making it accessible. It has a number of beaches. Grace Bay beach is one of them, though the sand on the beach is warm and soft, ideal for long walks along the shore. It is compensated by the rugged hills and tall ridges of cacti surrounding it. Turks and Caicos are full of uniquely named places. This national park is located close to Provo, thus can be easily accessible from there. It is known for the scenic beauty of its natural lagoon. The shallow waters of the lagoon have a beautiful turquoise hue to it amidst small rocky islands. It’s like a treat to the eyes. 5. Smith’s Reef
Turks and Caicos is known for its coral reefs. Smith’s reef is one of the most visited snorkelling sites in the world. It is located close to Provo as well, north to it actually. There are various types of reef there, for the experienced as well as amateur snorkelers. Once you begin snorkelling, you will get to see the unique and diverse underwater fauna present in the vicinity of the reef. 8. Try the awesome food
Any form of Travel is incomplete without food and drinks. The best part of Turks and Caicos is that you can have any sort of food or dish you want – from Chinese to Continental, the island restaurants have it all. However being an attractive beach destination it has seafood platters to calm your soul. One of the most famous dishes is the conch fritters or conch salad. You can taste the sea in it. Lobsters, fishes are served either fried or baked or as you like it. Unique fruit platters and cornbreads are among the islands’ specialities that you can’t miss.
