Bergman’s Design for Life

By Richard Jones

For some people, the hotel, apartment, villa or cottage they stay in during their holidays is purely for sleeping, in-between getting out and about.

And that’s perfectly fine, but other travellers may want considerably more from their lodgings.

If you are a design lover for example, you may be seeking interior inspiration from your chosen accommodation, as well as hoping that it will count as another, if not the main, attraction of your break.

In 2017, dynamic husband-and-wife duo Marie Soliman and Albin Berglund created Bergman Design House, a luxury design studio which specialises in the hotel, commercial, residential, and super yacht industries.

With over 25 years of combined experience and regarded internationally as leading creative movers and shakers, they have an enviable portfolio of projects at some of the UK’s most exclusive addresses.

“Vintage finds”

This year, the Bergman Design House launched The Lund Collection, a new luxurious one-bedroom cottage with incredibly striking interiors in the Cotswolds.

Providing inspiration and R&R in the English countryside, the design-centric private cottage is located just a stone’s throw from Chipping Norton, Great Tew and Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire and provides an oasis of calm for couples, friends and solo-travellers alike.

Exquisitely decorated by Marie and Albin, The Lund Collection is home to a carefully curated collection of original artwork and vintage treasures alongside new bespoke furniture from the studio’s Black Berg Collection.

From 17th-century Chinese ceramics and an 18th-century marriage armoire turned-showstopping drinks cabinet, to a modern and luxurious deep-soaking bathtub, design lovers will marvel at the wonders on display.

“What’s been so enjoyable about this project has been the ‘treasure hunt’ for the most incredible antique and vintage finds, all of which tell their own unique story while highlighting the beauty of the newer items next to them,” says Marie.

“It’s an approach I like to call ‘organised chaos’ – the creation of a space that is both functional and timeless, with a playful hint of surprise or whimsical energy.”

“Photogenic villages”

Combine that with the work of some of the most distinguished furniture and textile artisans in the UK, including Upholstory, Robert Kime, Tori Murphy and de Le Cuona, and the result is nothing short of spectacular.

Guests at the property will be treated to a fully stocked bar, a hand-curated welcome hamper and a state-of-the-art Swedish Moccamaster coffee machine, ensuring they can immediately relax on arrival and feel at home.

Stepping outside the cottage, you’ll see rolling hills and lush green countryside, with nothing but fresh air and the sound of farm animals in a nearby field.

With endless nature trails and photogenic villages to explore, there’s always something to do in the Cotswolds.

And should visitors wish to explore further during their stay, The Lund Collection is conveniently located near Westonbirt Arboretum, The Abbey House Gardens in England’s oldest town Malmesbury, and Bibury, described by textile designer, poet and artist William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England”.

Cheltenham and Cirencester, the largest town in the Cotswolds, are both a short drive away, and The Cotswold Way, which extends from the quintessential market town of Chipping Campden to the Roman city of Bath is easily accessible.

The Lund Collection is Bergman Design House’s latest foray into luxury UK accommodations, and Marie is also the mastermind behind all design aspects of the new The Other House Hotel, a private members hotel with an all-day dining bistro, a destination bar, and a glamorous spa, which opens in South Kensington, London, in April.

Bergman Design House have also designed BXR, the high-end boxing gym located in Marylebone along with BXR in Bishops Gate, which will be London’s highest gym.

“Sanctuary”

“When you enter one of our hotels, bars, or restaurants, we want you to feel you are entering a magical world,” explains Marie.

“There is an element of fantasy there and you can be whoever you wish to be.”

However, creating and designing The Lund Collection has been an extra-special passion project for Marie and Albin, and they hope it will be a sanctuary for guests seeking zen and an opulent English escape.

“We fell in love with this cottage and the absolutely stunning countryside. We are so thrilled to share it with our guests,” Marie added.

“It is intended to be a sanctuary for all who visit – we want our guests to come here and truly switch off, connect with nature, and feel at home.”

Nightly rates at The Lund Collection in Chipping Norton, Middle Barton, Oxfordshire, start from £595 per night including a welcome hamper with wines personally curated by Albin Berglund.
