Summer 2017 – RAF Museum Cosford, Shropshire
As well as a massive collection of aircraft and displays at the RAF Museum, throughout July ‘Summer of Spies – Spy Trail 2017’ will guide young detectives around the National Cold War Exhibition where they can try to crack the secret code. Entry to the museum and participation in the spy trail are both free of charge!

Summer 2017 – Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom
Have an African adventure at Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom and meet servals, Zeus and Duma, as well as caracals, porcupines and friendly meerkats. Why not try out being a zoo keeper for the day or take part in a farm trail, there’s even sheep racing to watch, and finish your day with a well-earned afternoon tea.

19-20 August 2017 – Blists Hill Victorian Town, Telford
One of 10 award-winning attractions at the Iron Bridge World Heritage Site, Blists Hill Victorian Town allows visitors to find out exactly what Victorian life was like. Over this weekend take the rare chance to get up close with an array of Victorian steam powered machines, all of which will be in their full working splendour. While you’re here, why not make a weekend of it and take time to enjoy the world-famous Ironbridge Gorge with amazing attractions, cycling and walking routes.

Engine House Fun Days

August 2017 – Highley, Bridgnorth
Visit Severn Valley Railway and enjoy a fun day at The Engine House. A number of themed activities will be taking place to keep those young, and young at heart, entertained during Summer. Marvel at the massive locomotives and learn about the history of Britain’s railways, and enjoy special activities including pottery painting, ‘meet the bees’ and an opportunity to experience the wonderful world of hedgehogs.

Ahoy – a boat race with a difference

28 August 2017 – Ironbridge Rowing Club, River Severn
The 30th Ironbridge Coracle Regatta takes place on the River Severn in the famous Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage site on the 28th August. The event celebrates the tradition of the Coracle and takes boat racing to a whole new level, with boat races in three categories: novice, intermediate and expert. There will also be water polo games and the popular ‘have a go’ – where visitors can try their hand at paddling a coracle. While visiting the World Heritage Site, why not stay in one of the cosy local guest houses or treat yourself to a spa weekend in this world-famous destination.

2-3 September 2017 – Telford Town Park, QEII Arena
Featuring more than 100 food, drink and craft exhibitors Telfood Feastival is bursting with local produce, and a tasting theatre, plus plenty to keep the little ones entertained – including a cooking bus, circus lessons, a disco dome and bug eating. There really is something for everyone. Telfood takes place in the QEII Arena within the 450-acre Telford Town Park and within walking distance of the popular waterplay park. There are also the attractions of Southwater with its restaurants, cafes, entertainment, and the retail heaven of Telford Shopping Centre with over 160 shops. 3 September 2017 – Weston Park, Shifnal
Weston Park, famous for hosting V Festival (19-20 August) is one of England’s finest stately homes. Explore the opulence of Weston Park, the beautiful landscaped gardens, 1,000 acre Capability Brown Parkland and dining in the Granary. The miniature railway, one of the finest in the UK, is a must for the kids. Visit on the 3 September for a special behind the scenes tour, where you can delve deeper into the history of the house on a guided tour of areas that are not usually accessible to the public.

Hit the right note with live music and prosecco

9 September – Chetwynd Park, Newport
If you’re looking for a day out with the whole family, Proms and Prosecco in the Park is the perfect opportunity to pack your picnic basket and enjoy an afternoon and evening of classical music. Local performers and some of the best talent across the country will feature with the event timed to coincide with the Last Night of the Proms. (Tickets are available from £17 and children attend free!) Newport itself is a beautiful quintessential market town, great for a spot of shopping and dining while you’re in the area.

A stroll through country life

16-17 September 2017 – Weston Park, Shifnal
The annual meeting place for country sports enthusiasts, the Midland Game Fair celebrates all aspects of country life. Complete with field sports competitions, gun dog events, clay shooting, live music and family entertainment. (Tickets available from £18, under-16s go free.)
