Gino D’Acampo, Leeds – Restaurant Review
By Kirsty Reid, November 2024
Having indulged in some incredible food while holidaying in Italy last year, I consider myself somewhat spoiled by the real deal.
So, when I was invited to sample Gino D’Acampo’s new autumn menu, I was curious: could I enjoy that same authentic Italian experience here in Yorkshire?
Located at The Marriott, Gino’s Leeds restaurant features an impressive marble bar complete with lounge area, a cicchetti bar, deli, a 160-seater open-plan restaurant, and an outdoor terrace.
It oozes sophistication, with modern decor, warm tones, and stylish lighting that create a classy yet cosy feel. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, giving it an airy, open atmosphere. Bold orange chairs add a pop of colour and a hint of Italian charm.
“Welcoming vibe”
Gino’s has a welcoming vibe, filled with the lively hum of a bustling Saturday afternoon crowd, making me feel like I’m on a mini-vacation in Italy — minus the airfare.
Perusing the menus, we are spoiled for choice. The drinks menu is vast, with cocktails, mocktails and, of course, a decent wine selection.
When it comes to food, we can choose from the lunch or à la carte menu. We opt for the three-course lunch menu (£31pp), which includes a complimentary drink, along with a bottle of Vino D’Acampo Pinot Grigio Rosé (£34).
Despite being busy, service is swift and we’re soon tucking into beautifully presented appetisers.
My Arancine al Ragù are delicious. Biting into the crispy risotto balls, I’m met with melt-in-your-mouth mozzarella and a flavoursome, slow-cooked beef ragù. They taste incredible – especially when dipped in the accompanying zesty roasted tomato and red pepper sauce.
“A classic dish done right”
Kyle’s Bruschetta al Prosciutto di Parma looks absolutely divine — so irresistible, I can’t help but sneak a bite. The sweetness of honey and nutty crunch of pistachio complement the spicy ‘nduja and salty Parma ham, adding just the right amount of sweetness to this savoury dish.
Mains are served in the form of salmon and beef ragù.
My generous portion of Fettuccine alla Bolognese is packed with flavour. Slow-cooked beef ragù with rich San Marzano tomatoes. The pecorino gives it a salty, tangy finish, and the pasta is cooked to perfection. This is a classic dish done right.
Kyle’s Trofie al Salmone Affumicato is rich and creamy, yet maintains a light touch. The twisted trofie pasta paired well with the mascarpone sauce and asparagus, while the salmon is delicately cooked, flaking tenderly with each bite.
“Heavenly”
No Italian meal is complete without tiramisù or gelato, so we decide to indulge in both!
The tiramisù is heavenly. The perfect balance of rich coffee-soaked sponge, velvety mascarpone cream, and a delicate cocoa dusting that melts on the tongue.
The gelato is just as divine. I opt for strawberry, vanilla, and honeycomb, with the latter a firm favourite.
If you’re looking for a place in Leeds that captures the spirit of Italy, Gino D’Acampo is it. A taste of la dolce vita right here in Yorkshire, and it’s definitely worth a visit.
