VonShef Dual Induction Hob – Review

By Steve Crabtree, May 2026
If you’ve ever lived through a kitchen renovation, you’ll know the chaos that comes with it. It all begins with excitement, but ends up with you washing forks in the bath while trying to figure out how you can conjour up a three course meal with a microwave, kettle and toaster.
We recently turned our garage into a makeshift kitchen to escape the dust, and while the microwave has been a godsend, it wasn’t going to cut it for a few weeks of proper living.
As a family, we needed a way to actually cook. And that’s how the VonShef Double Induction Hob ended up on my makeshift workbench.
Honestly? It’s been a fab. And even though our kitchen is brand-spanking new and ready to go now, we’ve not completely put the hob away…it comes in more than handy for extra hob space.
What’s in the box
- VonShef 2800W Double Induction Hob
- Instruction manual
- Attached UK mains plug
“Much more than a camping stove”
Taking this out of the box, it’s compact enough but it’s much more than a camping stove kind of thing. It’s got two spots for large pans, and a control panel across the front. I was suitably surprised at the piece, and really happy.
There is absolutely zero assembly required here either. You take it out of the box, peel off the protective films and plug it in. It’s a sleek, low-profile bit of kit that looks much more ‘professional kitchen’ than anything else.
And although sturdy, it comes with a real lack of weight. It’s light enough to move around the garage (or kitchen) with one hand, but it sits nice and firm on the worktop thanks to the non-slip feet. The toughened glass surface covers the whole top, so there are no awkward ridges for grease to hide in.
The lightweight feel means you’re less likely to procrastinate and decide against getting it out when you actually need it too.
“Ten different heat settings”
If you’re moving over from a standard electric hob, the speed of this thing will catch you out. I popped a pan of water onto boil for some pasta, turned it up, and it was starting to bubble quickly. It’s fast. Like, ‘don’t leave the room’ fast.
The controls are just as easy to use as the hob in my actual kitchen too. You’ve got two independent rings, and you just tap the touch-sensitive buttons to jump between the ten different heat settings. But what I loved the most was its safety settings.
You have to have a pan on the hob to activate any heat, and because it’s induction, the surface itself doesn’t get screamingly hot. As soon as you lift the pan off, it stops heating. Perfect for when you’re working in a cramped temporary kitchen and don’t want to accidentally melt a tea towel.
As for where else we could use it, my in-laws have a campervan that they travel around the country in. They use standard camping equipment to eat, but they can easily plug this in and use it on their travels. Again, it doesn’t take up space, but it doesn’t mean you have to cram your food together to let it cook.
What VonShef says
“The VonShef Double Induction Hob is a portable, powerful cooking solution that’s ideal for kitchens with limited space or as a supplementary hob for busy cooks. With a combined output of 2800W across its two independent heating zones, it heats quickly and efficiently, using induction tech that warms your pan directly rather than heating the surface. Each zone features ten heat settings from 60°C to 240°C, controlled via a clear LED display and touch panel, plus an integrated timer for precise cooking.”
The verdict
I’m genuinely chuffed with this. What was a piece of emergency kit to begin with has proved it’s worth more than we could have anticipated – one of those rare gadgets that solves a problem immediately but stays useful long after the emergency is over. It’s handled everything from a slow-simmered chilli to a quick Saturday morning fry-up without too easily.
The only thing to keep in mind is the fan noise. It does whirr away while you’re cooking to keep the electronics cool – but you get used to that. And, once the food is on the plates, you don’t even notice it. It wipes clean in about three seconds with a spray and damp cloth, which is a massive win in my book.
Whether you’re mid-renovation like we were, or you just need a reliable extra couple of rings for a family dinner, this is a cracking investment. It’s simple, it’s fast, and it works exactly how it should.
