The Top Christmas Activities in Yorkshire for 2019

Each year finding things to do at Christmas can be difficult, especially when you have a family. But this year, Yorkshire is pulling out all the stops with plenty of things to do.
With the coldest winter for 100 years forecast, you’ll find both indoor and outdoor things to do, which are easily reachable via public transport, foot, car and specialist transport like Allied Mobility – so everyone is catered to.
Below, we’ve listed our top five things to do.
Christmas at Harewood
Perfect for the whole family, spending the night in a mansion will help you to feel Christmassy and super cosy at the same time – as you hide away from the bitter winter weather. Filled with festively exciting things to both see and do, you’ll be able to marvel at gossiping paintings and singing crockery before partaking in several workshops led by leading artists and children’s craft activities and trails. It truly will be a magical evening.
Christmas festival
If you feel like you want to embrace the great outdoors over the Christmas period, you’re in luck, as plenty is going on outdoors throughout Yorkshire too. Running from 14th November to 22nd December, the Christmas Festival, found in the centre of York, is well worth a visit. With plenty of food, drink, crafts and festivities to enjoy, there’s no other way to inject a little Christmas spirit into the whole family.
The Polar Express Train Ride
Keeping yourself indoors while experiencing the joy of the outdoors, this is one the kids will never forget, so head over to Wensleydale for a Christmas treat. A magical time to be had, this is the only licensed Polar Express in the whole of Yorkshire. Transporting you into a film-like situation, everyone from the singing Hobo to the conductor from the 2004 film will be there to make this a special and engaging moment. Then you’ll be off, experiencing everything from the magical story to the northern lights before meeting Santa Claus himself at the North Pole.
Winter Wonderland
Heading back outdoors, Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland is a fun and magical place where the whole family can have an amazing time together. Step into the wondrous world where you’ll discover the North of England’s largest outdoor ice rink – The Ice Factor – where you’ll be able to spend time whizzing around the ice, no matter how much experience you’ve had in the past. Alongside this you’ll find an Alpine-themed café for when you need to get inside for a little bit for something to eat and drink and a giant Christmas tree for all to marvel at. You’ll even find Santa, live entertainment and a vintage funfair too.
Castle Howard
Heading back indoors, Castle Howard is something completely different to everything else you could experience at this time of year. With a flowing festive ambience that’ll make you feel all cosy inside, each year a group of angels descend upon the castle to surprise and delight those who are visiting. Meanwhile, huge floral decorations, the 25-foot Christmas tree and the fairy gingerbread house make for excellent sights too.
So, when it comes to Christmas this year, as you can see, you’ll never be stuck for something to do in Yorkshire.
