York’s Famous Pop-Up Thor’s Tipi Bar Returns in November
One of York’s best-known Christmas pop-ups, THOR’S tipi bar, will make a return to the city centre on November 13th – and it will be staying until the New Year.
Last year, the popular and acclaimed bar saw over 50,000 people visit the uniquely themed attraction. The bar plays on York’s Viking heritage and remains a firm fixture of the Christmas offering in the city.
From 10am on Wednesday 13th November in Parliament Square, THOR’S will re-open its doors and provide a cosy winter retreat for Christmas shoppers, visitors and families alike.
“Soak up the atmosphere”
Two linked canvas tipis will form the bar, festooned with lighting and decked out with wooden tables and benches, cosy furs and an open fire pit, around which customers can soak up the Viking hygge. Inside, bespoke timber walls adorned with THOR’S very own Viking shields bring an additional Norse touch as well as adding to the venue’s quirkiness.
A brand-new drinks menu aims to offer something for everyone. Hot and cold cocktails with a Christmas twist, beers from around the world and local ales and stouts are just a few of the new items. An extensive wine list, soft drinks and a non-alcoholic selection can also be discovered whilst festive favourites such as mulled wine and hot chocolate will ensure there is something to warm everyone’s cockles. Teas and coffees are also available to revive busy shoppers.
York’s favourite street food vendors, Shambles Kitchen, will be returning with a new cabin accessible to customers already inside the tipi, allowing them to order easily from the Christmas savoury menu, while a private outdoor heated terrace hidden round the back, enables customers to soak up the festive atmosphere whilst watching the hustle and bustle in the Christmas market.
“Relax and refuel”
Maria Farrugia, Managing Director and Co-Founder of THOR’S, said: “The team behind THOR’S are always proud to open the doors to the York bar as this is where it all began. We have kept things fresh once again with a real Christmas-themed menu and our increased capacity which we introduced last year keeps all our customers happy. Friends, families and even dogs are welcome under the twinkling canvas. We truly are Christmas in a cup!”
Sean Bullick, Managing Director of Make it York said: “THOR’s tipi has proved to be a firm favourite in the city’s Christmas programme over recent years – offering a unique setting for both visitors and residents to relax and refuel after exploring the city over the festive period. We are delighted to welcome it back this year as a key part of the York Christmas experience.”
In addition to York, THOR’S tipi bars will be popping up in Leeds, Sheffield, Lincoln, Nottingham and London over the Christmas season.
THOR’S tipi bar will be open from 10am to 11pm daily from 13 November 2019 through to 1st January 2020 (closed Christmas Day)
