Sounds In The Grounds Returning in 2021

A Country Night In Nashville Sounds In The Grounds

Following its acclaimed debut in North Yorkshire last summer, Sounds in the Grounds announces a new venue for its socially distanced picnic concerts for summer 2021.   Complying with Covid-19 guidelines, Sounds in the Grounds brings great live music to the Clocktower Enclosure of York Racecourse on 25th, 26th and 27th June.

Audiences can come together and enjoy three evenings of best-loved and internationally renowned bands from their own designated picnic patch – for two, four or six people – which will be socially distanced from others but close enough to share the fun.

ABBA MANIA Sounds In The Grounds

“All the hits”

Beyond the Barricade is now in its 22nd year. It features past principals from Les Misérables and some of the best-loved songs from the world’s greatest musicals.

Then on Saturday 26th June ABBA Mania takes the stage. The world’s number one touring ABBA tribute will perform with platforms, flares, and belt out all the hits.

A Country Night in Nashville will recreate the energy and atmosphere of a buzzing Honky Tonk in downtown Nashville. In a true celebration of country music, songs from its biggest stars end the weekend on Sunday 27th June.

The New York Brass Band will get the party started as the support act to each concert. And they’ll perform a different repertoire every night, from jazz to 80s, to current hits.

Scampston Hall will also have a great line up between 11th – 13th June. And Ripley Castle follows suit between 20th – 22nd August. Names include The Definitive Rat Pack, and Tina Turner act One Night of Tina. Then Killer Queen recreates the iconic songs and showmanship of legendary rockers Queen.

Beyond the Barricade Sounds In The Grounds

“Something for everyone”

Sounds in the Grounds concerts are designed to comply with all official guidance on Covid-19. Picnic patches will be defined by painted lines in the grass arena within the grounds. They’ll be set out in rows of patches for two, four then six people.

Producer James Cundall says “After the success of Sounds in the Grounds last summer, we are thrilled to add the Clocktower Enclosure of York Racecourse to our list of prestigious venues!  These picnic concerts are a great opportunity to get together and enjoy a fun night of live music in a safe, socially distanced way.  From the glorious Broadway classics to Dancing Queen and Dolly Parton, I hope we have something for everyone.”

He adds, “Without doubt, the New York Brass Band is one of York’s best exports and it will be wonderful to get them on stage in their home city.  Importantly it’s an opportunity for both musicians and crew to showcase their talent again after months of inactivity during these difficult times.”

Sounds in the Grounds will take place at the Clocktower Enclosure at York Racecourse from 25-27 June 2021. The Scampston Hall dates run between 11-13 June 2021; and at Ripley Castle between 20-22 August.

Tickets for all concerts are on sale now from They start at £59 (plus booking fees) for a standard picnic patch for two people.
