‘Kerouac Lives’ celebrates the life, work, and impact of legendary Beat writer Jack Kerouac. It’s a brand-new show that combine key readings, exciting conversation, and an original soundtrack, to celebrate the centenary of the legendary writer’s birth.Jack Kerouac is a voice like no other. The beloved writer seems to transcend his era. His works become a symbol of change in an increasingly conformist system, leading the iconic Beat movement. And it also inspired the next generation of rebels for decades to come. He was a champion of freedom, individuality, and authenticity.

Now, to commemorate the centenary of the writer’s birth, his work will be brought to life once more. And brand-new cabaret show ‘Kerouac Lives’ comes to Hebden Bridge, Halifax in February.

“Manic devotion”

Kerouac Lives! will bring together Simon Warner, a specialist on the Beat Generation, popular music, Heath Common, acclaimed poet and spoken word performer and John Hardie, musician, and composer. Over the course of the evening, audiences will be treated with a range of visual and audio dedicated to the writer, including lively discussion between Warner and Common, retellings of the Kerouac’s rollercoaster story supported by key extracts from significant works, and a specially composed score, with lyrics by Heath Common and instrumentals by John Hardie.

Simon Warner comments: “Kerouac spent his short yet full life writing with an almost manic devotion to the art. But he did it to a constant soundtrack – on record players, car radios, in concert halls, via jukeboxes and in bars and cafés. Music was his most trustworthy companion, whether jazz or country, blues, or Broadway ballads. It seems logical to tell his tale through words and song.”

Kerouac Lives comes to Wandsworth Community Centre on the 4th February. And the production will champion the vision, symbolism and true passion of Kerouac’s works.
