Deer Shed Festival 2019 Set for July main stage

by Victoria Holdsworth

The ultimate family festival is back – and I can’t believe it is that time already. 2019 will be the tenth instalment of Yorkshire’s very own Deer Shed Festival, the annual celebration of family friendly music, arts and science.

This year’s festival theme is Generation XYZ, giving all festival goers a great excuse to join in the arts, science and sport programmes with things beloved by each generation. So, if you want to master the Rubik’s cube, relive your retro video gaming glory days, or learn how to play a Furby organ with Look Mum No Computer, you can in the science tent.

Other exciting activities this year include experiencing magical and immersive theatre, walkabout performances and art installations created specifically for the festival site. Or maybe you would like to channel your inner Hulk Hogan with KAPOW Wrestling, learn to fence, or take part in the biggest game of British Bulldog Baldersby Park has ever seen. Well, you can in the sports arena.

There is even a pop music quiz hosted by Shed Seven drummer Alan Leach, or you can geek it up and listen to music industry bods speak about the revival of vinyl, with the literary and spoken word line-up.

“All this on your doorstep”

If that’s not enough to get your creative juices flowing, then wait until you see the line-up. This year sees Deer Shed welcome the likes of Ezra Furman, The Wedding Present, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Steve Mason (Beta Band), She Drew The Gun, Fontaines D.C. and Slow Readers Club. These acts are just the tip of the iceberg, with over 62 music acts performing over the weekend.

This year’s comedy stage looks set to cause much amusement with the big personalities of Mr. Reginald D Hunter, Richard Herring, Milton Jones and the legendary Angelos Epithemiou to name but a few.

The Wellbeing area this year is offering all sorts of interesting activities, with many different yoga sessions, zen raves, Tai Chi, gong baths, massage and hot tubs, all alongside some fantastically interesting workshops, and children’s entertainment.

All this on your doorstep, sun-soakingly set against the rolling picturesque hills of Topcliffe, North Yorkshire. But you had better hurry, as tickets are running out fast. See you in the sheds!
