Cast Attend Yorkshire Premiere of Hit TV Series Last Tango in Halifax

Leading names in the world of TV were on the red carpet at the Square Chapel Arts Centre recently. As the launch of the fifth series of Last Tango in Halifax was hosted in the town where the drama is based.

The BAFTA award winning series started in 2012. And it tells the story of rekindled passion between pensioners Alan and Celia.  Stars Sarah Lancashire, Nicola Walker, Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid were joined by writer Sally Wainwright at the recently refurbished venue. And a limited number of fans of the show got to see the premiere of the first episode of the forthcoming series too.

7000 people applied for tickets to the screening. Only a lucky few hundred got to see the first episode before anyone else, and Q&A presented by Naga Munchetty followed. They fired questions to the cast, giving Last Tango in Halifax addicts a chance to find out what’s next for Celia, Alan and their families.

The drama was filmed throughout Calderdale last year.  Spots in Elland, Sowerby Bridge and Halifax will be on our screens later this month, according to the BBC.

The Square Chapel is fast becoming the go-to place for local based drama. Only last year the venue hosted the premiere of BBC’s Gentleman Jack, starring Suranne Jones and Natalie Gavan.

Keep an eye-out for On: Magazine‘s review visits to the centre over the next few weeks.
