Sounds Of The City Hits Leeds Millennium Square in July 2021
Renowned concert series Sounds Of The City is taking over Leeds Millennium Square in July 2021 for a run of headline shows featuring Idles, Foals and DMA’s.
Since 2013, Sounds Of The City has become an integral part of the Manchester music scene. And some of the most acclaimed live artists have taken to to the stage. 2021 sees the event expand over the Pennines to Leeds Millennium Square – the bespoke outdoor live entertainment venue in the heart of the city. A venue which is already a firm favourite amongst Yorkshire gig-goers.
An Idles takeover of Leeds Millennium Square brings a very special headline show on Thursday 8th July. The band have just celebrated their first number one after their much-anticipated third album ‘Ultra Mono’ topped the Official UK Albums Chart. It also scored the fastest selling vinyl release of 2020.
The band’s last album Joy as an Act of Resistance peaked at Number 5 on its release in 2018 and was shortlisted for last year’s Hyundai Mercury Prize. Idles will also head out on a huge tour of UK and Ireland throughout May and June next year. And in Leeds, they will be joined by special guests The Big Moon.
Foals will headline the Square on following the biggest headline tour of their career next year which will see them play across the UK including three successive sold-out nights at London Olympia in May and a sold-out Sounds Of The City show in Manchester. Foals released their critically acclaimed album Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – Part 2 in 2019.
It was the most ambitious project of their career. The album follows the equally lauded Part 1 release and represents a new creative peak for the band. Over the course of the project, Foals landed their first UK #1 album and earned three prestigious awards: Best Group at the BRIT Awards, Best Album at the Q Awards and Best Live Act at the NME Awards. It was also nominated for the Mercury Prize.
“Euphoric, thrilling and anthemic”
Sydney’s DMA’s will headline Leeds Millennium Square next July and will be joined by special guests The Lathums. Since bursting on the scene in 2015, the band haven’t stopped with their euphoric, thrilling and anthemic shows. An impressive 40,000 tickets were sold on their last headline UK tour.
And they spent last summer touring with main stage sets at Isle of Wight, TRNSMT and Citadel festivals; as well as huge outdoor shows with Courteeners and Liam Gallagher’s 2019 UK arena tour. They also sold out Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl in less than 24 hours (to be rescheduled for 2021). DMA’s critically acclaimed third album ‘The Glow’ was released last month, charting at an impressive #4 in charts.
Over the years, Sounds Of The City has hosted sold out shows. Headliners have included Kylie, Chic, and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. 2019 saw Sounds Of The City launched at Cardiff Castle with headline shows from The Killers, Manic Street Preachers and Paul Weller.
