Indie rockers Shed Seven are coming to Halifax! The Piece Hall have announced them as the latest big name to take centre stage at their summer music season, and the town are pretty pleased about this one.
The successful music events that the Piece Hall delivered in 2019 gripped Halifax. Shows included a sell out concert for the town’s own Embrace, and 2020 is shaping up to be even stronger. Already the Kaiser Cheifs are playing two nights at the Grade I listed building, along with The Specials and Richard Hawley.
“Waves of excitement”
But the reveal of Shed Seven has sent the biggest waves of excitement through the town. And no doubt bosses of businesses around Halifax will have seen an increase in holiday requests when the announcement was made. Last year the Piece Hall asked followers of their Facebook page who they’d like to see next year. And it was Shed Seven who were mentioned hundreds of times.
“It’s our PLEASURE to announce that we’ll be playing a huge show at The Piece Hall in Halifax this summer – See you on Friday 26th June!!!” the band tweeted at 9.00am. And an influx of satisfied replies came thick and fast.
And keeping it all Yorkshire, the support acts don’t have far to travel either. Pigeon Detectives are special guests, alongside The Wedding Present and Skylights.
“I don’t think a band and a venue could be better suited to each other”
The secret was teased out to fans by both Shed Seven and the Piece Hall before the weekend. The band Tweeted fans asking if they were ready for another open-air summer concert. And at the same time the Piece Hall revealed that another open air gig would be announced on Monday. Fans of the band and the Piece Hall quickly put two and two together. And Monday’s announcement was met with delight.
Fan Danny Keast of Halifax said: “Brilliant. The Piece Hall is great, and as a music venue it’s awesome. Since last summer, people have been saying that getting Shed Seven to play here is what we need. I don’t think a band and a venue could be better suited to each other.”
Two years after releasing Instant Pleasures, their first new album for 16 years, the band completed their Shedcember 2019 tour as recently as December and Leeds Arena was the only Yorkshire date for that run. So anyone who couldn’t make that gig will have a chance to jump off the train and go straight in to the Piece Hall to enjoy the gig of the summer.
And Haligonians will be hoping that the weather is as kind to Shed Seven as it was to Embrace. The scorching sunshine added to the feel of the day last year. And the Shed’s show is sure to go down as as one of the most memorable events that Halifax has ever seen.
