Manics Support New Album with Leeds Date

by Victoria Holdsworth

After producing a dizzying back catalogue of thirteen albums, over a career spanning beyond 25 years, one of the most inspirational bands of our times return to Leeds.

With countless awards to clutter their mantle pieces, and bucket loads of accolades, this April saw the release of Manic Street Preachers‘ new studio album, Resistance Is Futile, and their brand new single, ‘International Blue’.

“Inspiration”

The band state: “The main themes of Resistance is Futile are memory and loss; forgotten history; confused reality and art as a hiding place and inspiration. It’s obsessively melodic – in many ways referencing both the naive energy of Generation Terrorists and the orchestral sweep of Everything Must Go.

Another teaser from James Dean Bradfield recently in the press was the band would be using this tour to mark the 20th anniversary of their classic 1998 number 1 album, This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours.

With singles including ‘If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next’, ‘The Everlasting’ and the rousing ‘You Stole the Sun from My Heart’, this tour looks to be nostalgically epic, with the mother of all set lists.

“Pioneering”

Support on all dates comes from very special guests, Merseyside’s indie rockers, The Coral. This summer will also see The Manic Street Preachers continue their touring schedule with some extra shows in Europe, opening for legendary rockers Guns N’ Roses.

What more can be said about one of planets most pioneering, artistic, progressive and sometimes controversial rock bands? Nothing… because resistance really is futile!
