Welsh rockers Manic Street Preachers are the latest band to be announced to play at the Piece Hall in Halifax this summer.

Blackwood’s James Dean Bradfield, Nicky Wire and Sean Moore will own the stage on Sunday 28th June, in a show that’s sure to sell out quickly.

The Manics have been a mainstay of British music for the best part of 30 years. With a mess of eye-liner and spray paint, they sloganed themselves on to the scene in 1992 with debut album Generation Terrorists. And since then, they’ve clocked up 13 studio albums, played for Fidel Castro, and had a string of top 40 hits. In the early days they were renowned for their intelligence and rebellion. And nowadays they put on a live show that’s stadium-worthy, and full of raucous, memorable energy.

“Another masterstroke”

Manic Street Preachers hit high in the popularity stakes with their fourth album Everything Must Go in 1996. Songs off that record like ‘Australia’ and ‘Kevin Carter’ were top ten hits for the band. It also gave us their calling card; the euphoric anthem ‘A Design For Life’.

Fan Dom Turner told us: “I didn’t think we’d ever see Manics in Halifax. I’ve travelled to Manchester, Leeds and beyond before, but this gig at the Piece Hall is going to be special. I can imagine Nicky Wire will love the place, and hearing ‘Faster’ and ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’ go off in there will be something else.”

And by signing up Manics, the Piece Hall have pulled off another masterstroke. Last year they had local heroes Embrace delivering a memorable gig. And they’ve raised the bar ten-fold in 2020 by securing  Shed Seven, Kaiser Cheifs and Richard Hawley. In 2019 the team behind the well-loved venue asked people who they’d like to see performing there this summer. And Manic Street Preachers were mentioned a number of times.

British Sea Power will support the Manics, and the concert will round off a stunning weekend at the Piece Hall. Shed Seven play there on the Friday, and Ska band The Specials take the Saturday night stage.

Tickets for Manic Street Preachers at The Piece Hall go on sale at 9am on Friday 24th January. They’re available to buy from
