Leeds Opera Festival has announced the programme for its 2021 festival.

The festival combines performances from world-class and emerging artists (almost always with a Leeds connection) with a programme of talks, workshops and also community events. It takes place from 23-30 August in venues across Leeds. It also promises to bring new productions of rare and wonderful operas to the city.

“World premiere”

The 2021 festival celebrates the operas of Gustav Holst. Productions and include a double-bill of At the Boar’s Head. There’s also a tale from an Indian Sanskrit epic, Savitri, with Meeta Raval in the title role.

There will also be a touring production of Holst’s The Wandering Scholar to eight venues in Leeds and West Yorkshire. And the world premiere of a work commissioned by the festival working with South Asian Arts UK.

Throughout the festival, there will also be a brand new exhibition at the Corn Exchange, which celebrates 300 years of operatic history in Leeds. Visitors to The Leeds Opera Story exhibition can explore the hidden history of opera in Leeds, forgotten theatres and the singers and companies who first brought opera to the city.
