Reunited Black Crowes Add Leeds Arena Date
by Victoria Holdsworth
Comprised of brothers, Chris and Rich Robinson, The Black Crowes will herald the 30-year anniversary of their landmark quintuple platinum debut album Shake Your Money Maker with a UK tour in October 2020, including a date at Leeds Arena.
The shows will see them playing their debut album, described by Rolling Stone as, “a guitar-party cracker that marries Southern R&B crunch and Anglo cock-strutting attitude”, in its entirety, plus all the hits from the band’s illustrious catalogue.
It hasn’t all been plain sailing for the band, with their first hiatus in 2002 lasting three years. Both brothers went on to form their own musical groups, as well. Chris Robinson formed the Chris Robinson Brotherhood and released six LPs during the Crowes’ hiatus. The most recent Brotherhood release was Servants of the Sun earlier this year.
“Vast back catalogue”
The Robinson brothers have not played a show in the UK since 2013 when they vowed never to play or speak together again. Thankfully for the fans, time have healed these wounds.
The band had teased us for a whole year with news of a reunion, however this was done not through any kind of social media post, let alone an official press release, but an advertisement for the July 17-18, 2020 gigs spotted in Penn Station.
After officially becoming The Black Crowes in 1989, and signing to Def American Recordings record label, The band released their first album in 1990, to great acclaim. Although essentially a rock group, The Black Crowes cite many musical influences, such as psychedelic pop from the 1960s, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rolling Stones and the Faces through to bands such as R.E.M. and the Southern rock scene.
Much like the previously announced U.S. leg of the tour, the Black Crowes’ run in Europe will see Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson, and company play hits from their vast back catalogue. If the Robinsons can reunite, anyone can do it!
