Twisted Burger Company at The Yard Ilkley – Restaurant Review

Twisted Burger Company, The Yard, Ilkley

Restaurant Review

by Robert Siddle

Hidden within the rustic grounds of The Yard Ilkley, The Twisted Burger Company has hooked up with the suburban hot-spot to offer gourmet burgers to The Yard’s already brimming range of craft beers, wines and cocktails. It’s an attempt to accommodate the broad demands of a hungry and bustling town, from a lazy afternoon through to the early hours of the morning (3am on Fridays and Saturdays).

yard ilkey burgerWe were lucky enough to visit on Mothering Sunday. It made for a nice afternoon trip to a pretty town and a very traditional-feeling Yorkshire bar. We were warmly welcomed by a great team, on-hand to seat us and offer us drinks. The menu is busy with choices and the front-of-house team are well-drilled in explaining how it works, and offer recommendations or their favourites.

With it been Sunday, I thought it rude not to try the house special The Moist Maker – a Sunday dinner in a bun. Priced at £7.95 and offering a double patty of beef, chicken or falafel, stuffing, hash brown, Yorkshire pudding and gravy, it was an exciting new take on the Yorkshire favourite Sunday dinner. A little messy to eat, but it was definitely full of flavour. Perhaps the chicken I tried could been a little more juicy, but overall it was a great alternative to the Sunday tradition.

“Terrific addition”

I picked a side of Cajun Harley House Fries at £2.75; a great price for a massive Yorkshire-portion. Full of Cajun flavouring, the side could easily be a sharer for a party of two. We settled for a portion each. But then men in a burger joint are always out for a challenge.

The build-your-own is a terrific addition to the burger joint. It allows you to pick and choose your favourite fillings. This is ideal if the ‘main attractions’ don’t tickle your fancy.

Burger enthusiasts might be looking for something slightly more challenging or alternative. And personally I long for the day a ‘gourmet burger’ doesn’t collapse in my hands under the weight of its own ingredients. But The Twisted Burger Company have created a nice little addition to the Ilkley offering here. Something that will perfectly suit a summer afternoon session as well as cater for the casual passing diner.
